A magazine did a survey in a community about different ways of life before and after the epidemic (疫情). 200 people were asked about food, health, online shopping and others in 2019 and 2023. China’s hotpot chain (火锅连锁) restaurant Haidilao has found itself at the center of the hotspot (热点), not because of its food, but for the “Subject Three” (科目三) dance. Actually, the “Subject Three” dance was from wedding celebrations (婚礼庆典) in Guangxi province, the southern part of China. It is said that, there are three important subjects for a Guangxi native’s life. They are singing folk songs, eating rice noodles and dancing.
The “Subject Three” dance caused a lot of heat when people show it on the social media at the first time. Haidilao made the dance famous at home and abroad. Many students, even pupils can dance it very well. It also became an Internet hotspot in many areas—people of all colors and from different countries or jobs joined into this dance. On Dec. 15th, the Russian Royal Ballet (俄罗斯皇家芭蕾舞团) danced “Subject Three”, bringing the house down in Shenyang.
Now, the “Subject Three” becomes an example of China’s influence. Many young people think it opens a door for them to show our own culture.

A young man called “Nanduoduo” shared his May Day journey and went popular online. He reached the top of the “five great mountains” in only five days.
Nanduoduo works in Chengdu, Sichuan. He came up with the “crazy idea” of punching in (打卡) at all five mountains a month before the holiday.
He left Chengdu on April 28 for his first stop—Mount Heng in Hunan. He first took a plane to Changsha and then took a train to Hengshan Station. After climbing Mount Heng on April 29, Nanduoduo took a high-speed train back to Changsha, an overnight (一夜的) train to Zhengzhou, Henan to visit Mount Song.
On the evening of April 30, he took a high-speed train to Tai’an, Shandong to prepare for the second day’s tour on Mount Tai. Later, he made a transfer (中转) in Beijing and took an overnight train to Datong, Shanxi to climb Mount Heng.
Nanduoduo’s final stop was Mount Hua in Shaanxi. He left the mountain at 6:10 pm on May 3 and got on a high-speed train to go back to Chengdu.
The journey received great attention. People were surprised at how the man planned the journey “down to every minute”. He could catch up every train and the plan would go on smoothly.
The trip cost Nanduoduo 4,000 yuan and he couldn’t make it without the country’s excellent transportation network (交通网络).
