Dong Lina was born into a farmer’s family in Dalian, Liaoning Province in 1984. She had poor eyesight at birth. However, she became ________ completely when she was just 10 years old.

Dong attended a ________ for children with disabilities and completed her compulsory (义务的) education there. During this time, she read hundreds of Braille (盲文) books. Later, she began learning a type of Chinese medicine called tuina and worked as a massage therapist (按摩师). ________ her life seemed to go on this way forever, Dong had big dreams and a determined spirit.

In 2006, Dong had the chance to study broadcasting and hosting. She realized the human voice was ________ and fell in love with broadcasting. Dong ________ her job and went to Beijing. Since then, she has been practicing her ________ by reading Braille materials almost all the time. A year later, Dong managed to achieve the top level in the Putonghua test. And she successfully became a radio host.

In 2019, Dong decided to ________ her education to fully enjoy her school life even though she was already 35 years old. She read books and articles for over 10 million words and finished her paper with more than 60 thousand words. Dong Lina not only made her name ________ a radio host, but also became the first visually impaired student in China to receive a master’s degree in Broadcasting and Hosting Art.

Dong always said, “If there’s something people never tried before, you can be the one to show everyone ________ it’s done!” Dong’s story spreads ________ across the country and her attitude towards life encourages more people to face difficulties and stick to their dreams.

My friends and I usually get on with each other, support each other and have lots of fun. But sometimes we can have disagreements and misunderstandings, and everyone’s feelings can get BIG! So what are big feelings? They are feelings like anger, frustration (挫败), worry and sadness. These “big feelings” can be difficult to control and sometimes we can feel like they are stopping us from being able to do the things we need to do-like play, work and rest.

Recently, one of my friends, Anna, had some really big feelings. Her heart was beating faster, and her hands were sweaty. She felt sick in the stomach and didn’t know what to do. Her cousin Mary gave her some advice-Talking to a trusted adult could help. Doing exercise also helped let some of the big feelings out. And taking big deep breaths slowly in ... and out ... and in ... and out could help too.

Here are some more great ways to calm down when you have big feelings:

·Getting some fresh air outside.

·Talking to a friend.

·Spending some time by yourself: reading, sleeping or listening to music.

·Splashing(泼洒) a little bit of cold water on your face.

·Having a cool drink of water.

Everyone is different and what works for you might be different from what works for others.

These days, a video of an 86-year-old man is hot online. In the video, Grandpa Kang is wearing colorful clothes—from a pink jacket to a green T-shirt to blue trousers. He is keeping up with the fashion trend (潮流) in 2023—dopamine (多巴胺) dressing. And, you know, dopamine dressing is more than just a colorful trend.

Our brains produce a chemical called “dopamine” when we do things that make us happy. And when we wear colorful clothes, our brains produce dopamine, too! So, dopamine dressing is a way of dressing that can bring happiness to the wearer through bright and colorful clothes. Fashion psychologist (心理学家) Dawn Karen came up with the term “dopamine dressing” in one of her books. She believes that wearing colorful clothes might make people look great and feel good at the same time.

Dopamine dressing is connected with color psychology. Bright colors often make people feel more cheerful and confident. For example, when people say “blue”, we may think of the blue sky or sea. The color blue makes us feel peaceful. Green, the color of nature, makes us feel hopeful. But colors like black, white and gray may make us feel bored sometimes.

Now, more and more people are taking this style to fight back bad feelings. When you choose clothes, you don’t need too many colors. You can just try one or two colorful pieces at a time. For example, you can try a colorful T-shirt, a funny hat or a pair of colorful shoes.

Safety at Home

On average, firefighters get a fire call every 24 seconds in China. Every 87 seconds, a home fire happens. Just for the past 10 years, 11,634 home fire deaths happened in the country. But the best escape (逃离) time for a fire is just three minutes or less. So everyone should pay attention to fire safety at home.

Avoid starting a fire by getting to know common causes. Cooking tools are the number one cause of home fires. Be especially careful when using them. Never leave the kitchen while cooking and make sure the tools are completely off after cooking. Electrical appliances (电器) can also result in a fire, so check them often to make sure they are working properly. Smoking is another common cause of house fires. It’s never a good idea to smoke indoors, so take a few steps to go out. Last, don’t forget little kids. They usually find fire exciting and think of fire as a toy. So keep them away from fire and teach them about dangers of fire.

How can we prevent home fires? The following tips may help.

Get smoke alarms

The first step is to set up enough smoke alarms through your home. Get one in every room.

Prepare fire extinguishers (灭火器)

Keep fire extinguishers available at home. They can put out small fires. Check them often to make sure they work properly.

Create a plan for escape

A good plan should start with at least two escape ways from every room. Then know how fast your family can run, tell kids when and how to get out, and make a house map with all doors and windows. At last, choose a meeting place outside. And don’t forget to practice it often with every family member.

You might think that these fire safety tips are common sense. However, it’s difficult to think of them especially when you’re in a life-and-death moment. Take action with the tip and never take fire safety lightly at home.
