What do you usually do on Saturday? I usually go to Michael’s Farm (农场) to see my grandfather and my cousins on Saturday. Michael is just my grandfather’s name.

It’s far from my home to Michael’s Farm. This Saturday, my friends Eric and Jim go there with me. At 10: 00 am, we start off by bike. We take a lot of food and drinks with us because we want to have lunch on our way to the farm. First, we ride on Blue Road for one and a half hours. Next, we have lunch under a tree near a crossing. After lunch, we turn left at the crossing and ride on Sky Road for another (再一的) hour to get to my grandfather’s farm. Along the way, we are tired (疲劳的) but happy.

My grandfather lives in a big farmhouse. He is very happy to see us. We help him water vegetables, feed (喂) animals and do some cleaning. We play games with my cousins. My grandfather cooks lots of food for us.

We have a good time with my grandfather and my cousins on Michael’s Farm. The next morning, we ride back home.

Jeff has a pet. It’s a dog. It is white. Jeff likes it very much. He thinks the dog is very smart. It can play ball games and it can buy newspapers for Jeff. Every morning, Jeff puts one yuan into the dog’s mouth and it goes to the shop to buy newspapers for Jeff.

Jeff has a good friend Mark. Jeff tells Mark about his smart dog. Mark doesn’t believe it. Today, Mark comes to see Jeff in the morning. Jeff is playing with his dog. Mark says, “I will give your dog money. I don’t think it can buy newspapers.” “Have a try.” says Jeff.

Then Mark puts money into the dog’s mouth and the dog walks out. After ten minutes, the dog doesn’t come back. After an hour, the dog still doesn’t come back.

“How much money do you give the dog?” asks Jeff.

“Five yuan.”

“Well, if it has five yuan, it will go to the movies.” says Jeff.

①At school, students usually learn many subjects in the classroom like English, math and so on. Now there is a new one in some schools—school gardening (园艺). It is an outdoor (户外) subject. In the gardening class, teachers teach students different kinds of vegetables and how to grow (种) them. Then students work in groups.

②________ Why? Because they can have much fun in this class. They don’t have to sit at their desks in the classroom all day. They can get out, get their hands dirty, do things with their own (自己的) hands and relax.

③It’s also fun to get something to eat and see. In some schools, students like to grow carrots and tomatoes. It’s always interesting for them to get a carrot or a tomato, wash it and eat it right in the garden. In some schools, students like to grow flowers (花). When it’s spring, all the flowers come out and they’re really beautiful. Students like to walk and talk in the beauty. That’s their favorite thing to do after busy hours of work.

④Only fun from the classes? Of course not. Students can learn something, too. Keeping a school garden is difficult and all the students in the group need to come and help. This teaches students teamwork. Also, some vegetables are easy to grow, but others need a long time. This teaches students they need to wait (等待) before they get the things they want.

⑤There may (可能) be many other good things about school gardening. But one thing is for sure—students really love having outdoor classes.

I have many rules in my family. Maybe you will say “So do I.” For me, the rules are a little strict. I can’t go out alone late at night. If I do that, my parents will be worried and not happy. On my school days, I can’t watch TV or listen to music if I don’t finish my homework. My mother thinks that will make me do badly in my school tests. On weekends, I have to do some reading, because reading is good for writing. I also have to clean my room and sometimes I help my mom do the dishes.

The rules are strict, but I know that my parents make the rules to help me develop (培养) good habits and have a better self-control. So I must remember the rules and follow them.
