Mike lives in a village in Nepal. There are many foreign tourists. Visitors almost always stopped at his mum and dad’s teahouse, so his parents would need his help to get ready!
One day Mike noticed a boy in the visitor group. The boy looked cool, so maybe he was from a big city. Mike put a teacup in front of him. The boy picked up his own cup and smiled. Mike thought to himself, “This foreigner and I could be friends!” He introduced the boy all about the village, the temple (寺院), and everything here. Then the boy left for Qomolangma Base Camp.
The rest of the day was busy! Later the weather changed badly. Mike’s father came in, looking worried, “A storm was coming down the mountain. Those visitors on the trail (路线) to the mountain might get lost!”
Mike felt worried when he heard this. Things could go very badly if someone got lost in weather like this! The mountains were dangerous, especially if people knew nothing about them.
His father called the men of the village together to go and make sure the visitors on the trail were all right. Mike stuck to coming along, because he wanted to make sure his new friend would be OK.
After hiking up the trail for an hour or more, finally at the bottom, he found the boy he had met that afternoon. It looked as if he had fallen down and hurt his leg! The young tourist was glad to see Mike! He smiled at Mike and made a gesture (手势), as if he thanked him. They both laughed happily!

We produce a lot of rubbish every day. Where does all this rubbish go? Scientists have made a pyramid (金字塔) of the different ways of dealing with rubbish. The worst ways are at the bottom and the best ways are at the top.
The bottom of the pyramid is waste disposal (丢弃). This means simply putting rubbish in places like open waste-yards. Waste-yards produce awful smells. They are harmful to the environment and our health.
A landfill (垃圾填埋场) is a huge hollow that can hold rubbish. In some landfills, waste is treated to make it less harmful before it is buried. Once a landfill is full, it is safely covered with earth. A park or playground can then be built on top of it.
Another way to deal with rubbish is to burn it. This produces energy but can give out harmful smells into the air. In some places, people clean the harm smells before putting them into the air.
In the middle of the pyramid is recycling. This means using rubbish to make new products. Used glass bottles, for example, can be changed to make new glass products. Waste paper can be broken up and mixed with water to make new paper.
Reusing is another good way to deal with rubbish. This means using “waste” in another way. Buying and selling second-hand things online is a good example.
Waste prevention is at the top of the pyramid. It means not producing rubbish in the first place. For example, you can say no to single-use plastic cups. Choose glass instead!

Here are some good ideas to put your emotions in order. These are greatly important to prevent yourself from uneasy feelings.
Eat breakfast in silence.
If you usually eat breakfast alone, this practice can be really helpful to get your emotions in order.
A good time to do this is at the end of the day. You should be in a place where no one can interrupt (打扰) you.
Prioritize (优先考虑) yourself.
You may not be able to enjoy big rewards every week, but you can enjoy small and successful ones. For example, sometimes it’s enough to just enjoy a warm bath, without worrying about anything else. In fact, a little act of personal prioritization has a wonderful effect on your mood (心情) and your enjoyment of life.
A.Breathing deeply for five minutes. |
B.It’s well worth introducing an act of personal prioritization each day. |
C.That’s because the beginning of the day is one of the most important. |
D.It’s even better if there’s no noise outside and it’s a nice place to be in. |
E.Therefore, if you do like this, I believe your mood will become more stable (稳定的). |
