Some friends invite you over and serve you a delicious dinner. Someone lends you his car while there’s something wrong with yours. You are sick, and a friend brings you a meal and cares for you. How do you show your gratitude(感谢) ?
Sometimes simply saying thank you is enough. At other times, it is thoughtful to say thank you in a more different way. Be sure to tell that person what you are grateful for and why you are grateful.
Here are some common ways to say thank you.
You can write a thank-you note. People are very busy these days. A handwritten note shows you took the time to tell someone you are grateful to him or her. Or you can call and thank the person. You would be surprised how this can make someone’s day. Another idea is to send a thank-you e-mail. This is not quite as personal, but it still shows your gratitude.
There are many other ways to say thank you. To say thank you in a creative way, you can:
★ Select some flowers from a shop. Write a thank-you note.
★ Give the person a basket of fresh fruit or a homemade treat.
★ Invite a friend to a movie, meal, snack or coffee.
★ Give a gift card for a bookstore or a restaurant. That way the person can pick out a favourite book or eat out.
★ Find out what the person likes and give something related to that.
★ To say a big thank you to someone, have a party for that person.
As you can see, there are many ways to say thank you. Think of some ways of your own. You will feel good trying one of the ideas, and the person being thanked will feel good too. It’s a win-win situation !

You may feel curious(好奇的) about students in other countries: Do they also have so much homework? What do they do in their free time?

At present, more and more people are crazy about travelling. Why do people travel? “To see more of the world,” many people would say. But travelling abroad now means much more than that for the growing number of Chinese tourists. Of course it offers us good chances to meet people from other countries, learn about their culture and customs.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), more than 1 billion people travelled to another country in 2012, that was 30 percent more than in 2011. It can also bring both China and foreign countries great economic benefits (经济利益). Chinese people usually join large tourist groups and visit several countries in one trip.
Chinese people don’t just travel for sightseeing. Many Chinese decided to travel abroad before Christmas Day because stores offered discounts (打折) during that time, so shopping in Europe and the United States is popular among Chinese travelers.
In December, China has a very cold winter. So many people travel to some countries in Southeast Asia because the weather there is quite pleasant.
More Chinese can travel abroad, but many of them don’t have a sense of public manners. A report even said Chinese are the world’s second worst tourists.
If you want to change that bad name, remember not to do so: littering, spitting, snatching bus seats, line-jumping, taking off shoes in public, talking loudly and smoking in non-smoking areas. Besides, we should learn some necessary manners of foreign countries.

What do you think of the most important inventions(发明) in the world? The TV? The printing(印刷术)? The telephone? Or the computer? A report shows that they are not the only important inventions. Here are three other important inventions.
One of the simplest inventions is the toilet. Before toilets, waste ran into rivers from people’s houses. Illnesses(疾病) were common(常见) in big cities, and it was often difficult to find clean drinking water.
Animal food is another important invention. Before the invention, most animals were killed every autumn because there was not enough food for them in winter. After hay(干草) became a kind of common animal food, animals could live through the long winter.
The third great invention is glasses. Glasses help people read, write and do “close work” after the age of forty-five. Without glasses, the world would be difficult for the people above forty-five.
