“Are you listening, Simon?” Simon’s teacher asked. Simon smiled and shook his head. He never listened or tried hard in class. Talking was so much better.

Draw pictures together. Draw a picture of what you have seen, whether it was on the front steps, in the backyard, or something you can see from your window. Ask the child to draw a plant, an animal, or a favorite place, and then ask him or her to tell you about the drawing.
Turn a drawing into a story. write down what your child says about the picture he or she just drew. Ask the child to make up a story about the picture, and keep it with other artwork and stories he or she has developed.
