Accidental inventions change our lives
Most of you enjoy eating potato chips. Do you know? The invention of potato chips was actually an accident. In fact, scientists have created many inventions by accident.
Let’s take a look at a few of them. Each one has an interesting story.
Penicillin
In 1928, British scientist Alexander Fleming went on vacation. But he forgot to cover up some bacteria before he left his lab. When he came back, he found there was some mold growing on the bacteria. The mold stopped the bacteria from growing. Fleming later found penicillin in the mold.
Potato chips
George Crum was a chef in New York. He invented potato chips in 1953.
One day, a customer said that his French-fried potatoes were too soft and oily. Crum thought the customer was rude and wanted to teach him a lesson. He cut the potatoes into very thin slices and fried them until they were crisp and brown. Surprisingly, the customer loved them.
Microwave oven
One day in 1946, US engineer Percy L. Spencer was working on radar tubes. He noticed that a chocolate bar in his pocket melted while he was working. He found out that the microwaves from the tube melted it. The engineer started to work out how to cook with microwaves.

The pecking order (啄食顺序)
Chickens have a “pecking order”. It goes from the strongest, biggest chicken to the smallest weakest chicken. The strongest chicken always eats first. The chickens learn this order on their own. But you have to make sure they all get enough food.
Caring for baby chicks
You need to feed baby chickens good food so they stay healthy. You also need a place for them to stay in your house, as well as a special feeder (喂食器) and a water bowl. Also, you should always clean the chickens coop (鸡舍) so that other people don’t complain.
Anybody can have chickens
You just have to know what you are doing and always be prepared. Chickens can bring families together. They are fun, beautiful and loving. They are also smart. It’s amazing how quickly they learn things on their own. So why not consider getting some of your own chicken friends?
