Kobe Bryant was born with basketball already in his blood. His dad was a former NBA star. When Kobe was six years old, his dad started playing basketball in Europe, so his family moved to Italy. The family stayed there for seven years. While living in Italy, Kobe learned to speak fluent Italian and started playing basketball.
The family moved back to the United States when Kobe was 13 and he started playing high school basketball. Kobe figured he was already good enough to play in the NBA, so he skipped college and was selected right after high school by the Charlotte Hornets(夏洛特黄蜂队) in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft(NBA选秀状元). In a trade the Hornets are still crying about, they sent Kobe to the LA Lakers(洛杉矶湖人队). Despite not going to college, Kobe was a quick learner on the courts of the NBA. He played in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in 1998 and by 2000, Kobe had developed into one of basketball’s best players. Kobe and Shaquille O'Neal(奥尼尔) teamed up to lead the LA Lakers to three straight NBA Championship Titles from 2000 to 2002.
In 2003, Kobe was caught by the police.
In 2004, the case against Kobe was dropped, but Kobe still had to live with a damaged reputation.
In 2004, Kobe tried to prove that he could lead the LA Lakers without Shaq. After Kobe told the Lake he wouldn’t be wearing the purple and gold if Shaq was in the team, O’Neal was traded to the Miami Heat(迈阿密热火队) before the 2004-2005 season. The trade was good news for the Heat, who won the NBA championship with O’Neal. In the next few years, Kobe grew disappointed as his team repeatedly suffered first round exits. The 2007-2008 season is when the LA Lakers finally got over the hump. They went on to have the best record of any team.
Although Kobe has passed away on January 26th, 2020, his fans around the world will miss him forever.

Chinese Five-Animal Exercises, also known as Wuqinxi, are the first complete set of qigong exercises following the movements of animals: monkeys, deer (鹿), birds, bears and tigers. They were created by one of the greatest doctors in Chinese history, Hua Tuo, more than 1, 800 years ago.
The Five-Animal Exercises are well-designed to help blood circulation (循环), and let the energy go smoothly in the body so as to improve the health.
“The bear movements are good for the stomach. The tiger movements can reduce the pain in the back. The deer movements help reduce the fat around the waist (腰). The bird movements can help keep our knees healthy and the monkey movements can be good for the heart.” said Hua Yi, the 59th inheritor (继承人) of Wuqinxi.
For those new learners, the first few exercises might not go well. You may find it hard to focus(集中注意力). Wear comfortable clothes, keep peaceful in your mind, try to move slowly... Little by little, you'll feel more and more harmonious with nature. You may even feel you become a tiger or a deer, walking in the forest freely.
These exercises need no tools and they are easy to learn. You can search online for the videos and practice them at any time when you feel like relaxing your body and mind. Because it's fun to practice and good for health, Five-Animal Exercises are becoming more and more popular in recent years, not only in China, but also in many other places of the world.

Home to the yearly World Internet Conference(WIC), Wuzhen, a water town in East China’s Zhejiang Province, has always been connected with technology.
Wuzhen’s People’s Park was built in the 1950s. But this traditional park is now a center with the latest technologies, powered by technologies including 5G, AI and AR, 23 interactive displays have been set up in the park.
An AI assistant is placed at the park’s entrance. From weather forecast to the price of meat and vegetables, it provides daily-life information for the local people.
Square dancing is popular in China. A big screen has been put up in the park’s square, and dancers can learn routines from the screen or use it as a music player. Using AR, dancers can see themselves through the special camera, making the screen a “mirror”.
The rubbish cans here are smart, too. The rubbish can open by itself when it senses something moving near. It then sorts the rubbish and tells you which kind it falls in.
The virtual zoo in the park is the children’s favorite. By using the park’s app to scan the area, visitors can check out virtual animals by AR cameras.
The park is not just a collection of technologies put together for no reason. All the services were designed according to people’s actual needs, which showed us what “technology+” could be like in the future.

You might not think much about where your garbage goes. But now you might want to know. On July 1, Shanghai introduced a new garbage-sorting (垃圾分类) policy. People there need to put different kinds of garbage into different bins (垃圾箱). Other cities in China will do the same soon.
Four kinds of garbage in Shanghai Recyclable garbage includes paper, books, boxes, newspapers, and glass bottles. Harmful garbage includes lamps, batteries (电池), nail polish (指甲油), and other things with harmful chemicals. Wet garbage usually comes from the kitchen, such as food, vegetables, flowers, leaves and eggshells. Dry garbage is anything you cannot put into the other three bins. It includes pens, toilet paper, tape, hair, and towels (毛巾). |
Why is garbage sorting a big problem? It’s because there is too much garbage these days. It is bad for our soil, air and water. Actually we can make use of some garbage again. And first, we need to sort our garbage.
For example, if you put an old battery into the “harmful waste” bin, people can use it to make new batteries. But if you don’t, the battery will end up somewhere else. Then, it will pollute the environment.
Can factories sort garbage for us? Yes, they can. But it takes many workers to do this and costs lots of money. If we all sort our own garbage, things will become much easier.
● Garbage sorting and recycling around the world.
Germany: There are big machines in supermarkets. You can put bottles in the machines and get money back. You can get one to two yuan per bottle. People like this because they can get money and protect the environment at the same time.
Japan: A trash truck comes to people’s doors to pick up their garbage. It plays music when it’s coming. There are eight or more kinds of garbage. If you sort any of them wrong, you will get a notice on your door.
Indonesia: People can take buses for free if they give plastic bottles to bus stations. An hour-long bus ride costs three large bottles, five medium (中等大小的) bottles or 10 plastic cups. But the bottles must be clean.
