Yesterday we visited Red Star Farm in the countryside. It was quite     1     (excite). There were many robots working there. And the farmers grew quite a lot     2     flowers around the farm. We did many interesting things there. And we learned a lot about farming. Every year there are many     3     (visit) coming here.

In the morning, we milked cows first, and then we     4     (ride) horses. At the beginning, the horses ran very fast. The guide was so worried about us     5     he made the horses slow down. The horses could hear and understand the     6     (guide) order. I thought they were quite lovely.

Alan went on a school trip yesterday. He had a pretty good time     1     Beijing with his classmates. They went to Beijing by train on Friday night     2     got there on the morning of Saturday. They     3     to Tian’anmen Square first. There     4     many people there. They     5     the national flag go up. Then they went     6     the Palace Museum. After lunch, they visited the Great Wall. When they got to the Great Wall,     7     started to rain. Alan played on the Great Wall and took some     8    . On Sunday morning, they visited a Beijing Hutong. After buying some things in Wangfujing Street in the afternoon, they went     9     home. They really enjoyed     10    . Though they were tired, they all felt happy.

Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life since the 18th century. Many countries have hundreds of different newspapers. There is an old Chinese saying: “A scholar need not leave his home to know what’s going on in the world.” Reading newspapers is, in my opinion, a must for a modern person. But how do newspaper e    1     decide which news stories to print? Why do they print some stories and not others? What makes a good newspaper story?

Firstly, it is important to report news stories. TV stations can report news much f    2     than newspapers. However, newspapers give more about the same story. They may also look at the story in another way, or they may print c    3     different stories from those on TV.

Secondly, a news story has to be interesting and unusual. People don’t want to read stories about everyday life. As a result, many stories are about some kind of danger and s    4     to be “bad” news. For example, newspapers never print stories about planes landing safely; instead they print stories about plane accidents.

Another factor (因素) is also very important in many news stories. Many people are interested in news in foreign countries, but more people p    5     to read stories about people, places and events in their own country. So the stories on the f    6     page in Chinese newspapers are usually very different from the ones in British, French and American newspapers.

Today, with so many newspapers and so many television and Internet sites, people can get their news quickly. Many newspapers have lost so many r    7    , so they have been forced to close.
