②The wine festival is actually a battle of the wine, held from the 28th to the 30th of June each year in Haro, one of the most important wine-producing towns in northern Spain. The Haro Wine Festival was only announced as a festival of both national and touristic interest in 1965, but its origins (起源) could go back much further. In fact, it was way back in the early part of the 13th century. At that time, Haro had a land problem with its neighbor in a nearby area. One day, people from the two sides started throwing wine at each other to solve the problem. That day the tradition started and got the name “War of Wine”.
③During the festival, the wine fight begins early in the morning on the places out of Haro. People are armed with buckets, water guns and anything that can be filled with red wine, and they pour the wine onto their friends or strangers. Everyone is supposed to wear a white shirt during the “fight”, because it is easily stained (染色). The “fight” will last for several hours until everyone’s shirt becomes bright purple. They will then return to the center of the town to enjoy delicious food and drinks.
④Each year, thousands of people, locals and visitors, celebrate the festival. Maybe you can become a member of them one day. The only problem is that you will smell like wine for days after the “fight”.

Father’s Day is celebrated to thank fathers and express gratitude (感激) for their love. In Canada, it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. People wear roses to express thanks and love for their fathers. This is also a time for a family reunion (团聚) , because children often stay away from their family and this is a good time for them to get together with their fathers and other loved ones. But in Australia, it is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. The day is celebrated only in families. A rich breakfast for families is a good way to celebrate Father’s Day. In Thailand, Father’s Day falls on December 5 every year. All the people have a one-day holiday. You can see many people are in yellow and the streets are decorated in yellow because Father’s Day is also the King’s birthday.
Some clubs, schools and cultural societies in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Australia, South Africa organize Father’s Day parties to provide people an opportunity to celebrate the day to show the importance of father’s role in the family and the society.

How’s your vacation? I’m visiting my uncle in Spain. He lives in the sunny and beautiful city of Valencia in Spain.
Yesterday, I had great fun. My uncle took me to the tomato festival in Bunol, which is just 30 miles away from where my uncle lives. You have probably never heard of this festival before. Neither had I. The tomato festival is called “La Tomatina” in Spanish. It was the biggest and messiest tomato fight in the world. When we first got to the square where the festival took place, it was very crowded with people from all around the world, and many trucks (卡车) were carrying tomatoes. My uncle told me the crowded people here were around 38,000 and this was more than four times the population of Bunol.
The tomato fight started as soon as the first banger (破旧的汽车) was beaten. Then everyone including me started throwing tomatoes at each other. I took red tomatoes and threw them at anyone that ran, moved, bent down, or turned around. Tomatoes must be squashed (压扁) before people threw them in order not to hurt anybody.
After a little while, the streets, people and nearby buildings were splashed with red. There was no winner in this fight, but we all had fun. As soon as a second banger was beaten, people stopped throwing.
I really had a great time, I wish you were here, too. I hope I hear from you soon. Take care.
With love,
From Spain
Linda
