Doing the activity with your children helps you develop their reading skills while having fun at the same time. If the reader finishes one book and asks for another, you know you are successful!

We wish you spend wonderful hours of reading with children! This summer holiday, we will invite some families to the program “Readers” to read aloud poems or books you like, and share your reading experience.

Activity: Read to me

It’s important to read to your children, and it’s also important to listen to them when they read to you.

What you’ll need: Books at your child’s reading level

What to do:

▲Read good books to your children. Parents who read aloud to their children are developing their interest and skills in reading. Encourage your children to listen, express their ideas, and ask questions.

▲Take turns. You read a paragraph and let your child read the next one. If your child becomes easier with reading aloud, you can ask him or her to read a full page.

▲Listen carefully as your child reads. Listening to your child will encourage them to practice reading. This is another way to enjoy reading together.

▲If your child has trouble reading words, you can help him or her in some ways:

●Ask the child to jump over the word and read the rest, then try to guess the meaning of the missing word.

●Guide your child to use what he or she knows about letter sounds.

●Tell your child that you are proud of his or her hard working.

【推荐1】Last week, I did a survey in my class and asked each student what they thought of the TV shows. Let’s have a look at the result.

Bill loves watching sports games best because he likes playing sports. Tom likes playing sports,too. Tom likes talk shows because they are interesting. Lily can’t stand soap operas. But Lucy says she doesn’t mind watching them if she has spare (空闲的）time. Lucy’s favorite TV shows are game shows. She loves watching them a lot. And everyone in my class likes watching sitcoms.

Bill and Jane in the picture are getting on the boat to Qingrendao, Hainan. They will join in a program called I’m In China for one day.

    1     About 500 people from across the world come to it to have different experiences (经历).     2     Chengdu, Sichuan is the first stop of the I’m In China program. The participants (参与者) can care about pandas’ life, together with zoo keepers. They can learn kungfu at Shaolin Temple in Henan. They can be a high-speed train worker in Wuhan, Hubei. And they can learn how to make hand-pulled noodles (拉面) in Lanzhou, Gansu.     3     In fact, for most foreigners, one of their biggest wishes is to see pandas before coming to China.

I’m In China opens a new door for China to the world. The program welcomes foreign friends to see China for themselves.     4     Through the program, the outside world can know more about China. The workers of the program will choose the best from those 500 people. These best people will work as ambassadors (大使) to share their real experiences of Chinese culture with the world.     5    

Where can you learn about the cultural relics(文物) of our country? You may visit museums or read books, but now a CCTV show may give you a more fun way to learn about them.

The show is called National Treasure, it has 10 episodes. It shows 27treasures from 9 museums across China. In order to make ancient culture relics come alive, the show uses different ways to explain the story history and culture behind them.

Although it's a show about old relics, it looks modern and technical, an IMAX-sized LED sired screen on the stage shows the treasures in detail.

The treasures are presented by National treasure keepers, both famous people and common people. Instead of just telling the stories and history behind the treasures, the show invites famous actors to be national treasures keepers. And they act out, this stories on the stage. The actors even use the funny words to make their performances interesting and alive. For example, on the show, actor Wang Kai played Emperor Qianlong TV viewers loved his performances.

While telling the stories behind the treasures, National treasure keepers also tell their own stories. For example, an old man named Qiu Qingnian is good at making natural paints for repairing ancient paintings. For many years he has been looking for mines(矿) deep inside mountains. On the TV program, he shows TV viewers how to make natural paints.

The show has become widely popular with its interesting plots, good performances and funny words. It has promoted ancient cultural relics and has encouraged more people to visit museums.

Have things like this ever happened to you? If so, you may ask yourself, “Who are these people? Why are they doing these things to me?”

These days, many people don’t know their neighbors. Sometimes we share a friendly smile or say hello, but lots of people don’t even know their neighbor’s names! When you don’t know someone, it’s easy to be angry when something has happened that you think is unfair. You think, “Maybe they like to make me angry,” or “Maybe they do it on purpose.” Believe it or not, your neighbors probably don’t mean to irritate (激怒) you. Often, they don’t even know that they’re making you feel angry. So before you take unusual steps to fix the problem, you should discuss it with them first.

When you move towards your neighbors, you should talk to them in a friendly manner. Praise their children to make them feel good. Then explain the situation. And if you can think of a simple way to solve the problem, suggest it.

If talking doesn’t work, ask another person to help. This person can listen to both sides of the story and help you and your neighbor solve the situation.

Finally, sometimes it’s a good idea to avoid the problem. Depending on the problem, it might be best to just stay out of your neighbor’s way.
