A fable is a story, passed down from grandparents to parents and then to children. People can learn much from it. The characters are mostly animals and nature. They can talk and act like humans. The most famous fables were written by a man called Aesop. There are around 600 fables in Aesop’s Fables. The Fox and the Grapes and The Tortoise and the Hare are two examples.
Fairy tales are usually stories for children, often about magic characters such as fairies(仙女) and giants(巨人). Sometimes the characters are animals. We are able to enjoy these fairy tales because about 200 years ago, Brothers Grimm traveled around Germany and collected these stories before people forgot them. “Where is that boy? When I find him, I’m going to...”
Aunt Polly looked under the bed. Then she opened the door and looked out into the garden.
“Tom!” She heard something behind her. A small boy ran past, but Aunt Polly put out her hand and stopped him.
“Ah, there you are! And what’s that in your pocket?”
“Nothing, Aunt Polly.”
“Nothing! It’s an apple! I can see it. Now listen, Tom, those apples are not for you, and I...”
“Oh, Aunt Polly! Quick—look behind you!”
So Aunt Polly looked, and Tom was out of the house in a second. She laughed quietly. “I never learn. I love that Tom, my dead sister’s child, but he isn’t an easy boy for an old lady. Well, it’s Saturday tomorrow and there’s no school, but it isn’t going to be a holiday for Tom. Oh no! He’s going to work tomorrow!”
Saturday was a beautiful day. It was summer and the sun was hot and there were flowers in all the gardens. It was a day for everybody to be happy.
Tom came out of his house with a brush and a big pot of white paint in his hand. He looked at the fence (栅栏)...

I have always been fascinated by the animal world. Recently, I read a novel about animals called A Lion’s Traveling. Chinese writer Shen Shixi wrote it.
The book tells the story of five male lions. They are driven out of their home and begin their adventure. Unluckily, one is hurt by a giraffe. Another is killed by a hunter. The third one dies during a fight for water with a rhino (犀牛). The fourth lion drowns (淹死). Only the youngest one, named Red Ribbon, is still alive. After going through many difficulties, he finally becomes the lion king.
The story shows the love and care between friends, the life and death faced by brothers, the determination (决心) to deal with challenges, and the passion for life. The fact that the young lion finally becomes the king teaches me a great lesson: Those who cannot defeat you will make you stronger. Everyone will face lots of difficulties during their lifetime. We should learn to stay strong and continue to find our better selves.
The book is filled with exciting details about the lives of lions. Together with vivid pictures, it gives readers an immersive (沉浸的) experience. You can not only read the great story but also learn a lot about the animals in the real world. I highly recommend (推荐) it!
