Welcome to your future life!

You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. You look young. In 2035, many people can live to be about 150 years old. So at the age of 40, you’re not old at all. And your parents look the same age as you!

You say to your shirt, “Turn red.” It changes from blue to red. In 2035, “smart clothes” can change the color and style as you like. You walk into the kitchen. You pick up the milk, but you hear the voice, “You shouldn’t drink that!” Your fridge remembers the information about the milk. It knows that the milk is not fresh. In 2035, every household appliance(家用电器) is like your secretary(秘书).

It’s time to go to work. In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your “smart car” where to go. On the way, you can call a friend with your watch. Such “smart technology” is all around you.

So will all these things come true? “All these things will come true, even better.” says a scientist.

I couldn’t agree more with the scientist. I am looking forward to the new life.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了关于火星的一些信息和关于人类生活在火星上的一些想象。

【推荐1】Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, the Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life there could be like.

At present, our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars—it would take months. With the development of technology, by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft that travel at the speed of light! However, the spacecraft would travel really fast, so the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.

Humans can’t live without water, air or food. So far, nobody knows whether there would be enough water or air on Mars for people. Moreover, scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. Food would most probably be in the form of pills(药片)and would not be so tasty.

Compared with life on the earth, life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with huge comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do a lot of their work so that they could have more time to relax. There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would study at online schools with “e—teachers”.

Life on Mars would be interesting and challenging. However, it may take hundreds of years to make it true. So the most important thing we need to do now is to protect our beautiful blue planet—the Earth!

【推荐2】What is the future of AI(人工智能)? Will it be a good thing? We asked four students what they think.

Tina:I believe AI will be more useful in our future lives. It's now used in many fields, like phones and medicine. No one really knows what will happen if machines become smarter than humans. However, I'm sure AI will help us solve many problems.

Bill:I am worried that people create something that can be better than themselves. In the near future, AI will develop at a high speed. Humans may be replaced because AI robots will do lots of human jobs.

Mary:I really think that AI will change the way we work, the way we live. And the way we think. Imagine if we could put a CPU inside our brain! Soon we'll be able to improve our math and memory. How exciting!

John:Think of what's happening right now. Some robots are used to kill animals under human orders. The media often gives the impression that human-level AI of the sort we see in sci-fi movies is just around the corner, uncomfortably close. I think the killing-decision thing should not be given to the machine. Otherwise, Al will be very dangerous for humans. We need to be careful about what we ask machines to do.

1. Who believes AI will help us solve many problems?
A.Tina.B.Bill.C.Mary.D.John.
2. Bill thinks humans will be replaced because________.
A.we can't improve our memoryB.AI robots will do human jobs
C.we can put a CPU in our brainD.AI can help in the medical field
3. Which of the following best describes John's attitude(态度)to AI in the future?
A.Worried.B.Hopeful.C.Curious.D.Uninterested.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了10到30年后最有可能出现的一些科学技术。

【推荐3】What’s going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet? Will computers become smarter than us? Not likely. But here are some things that scientists say are most likely to happen in 10-30 years from now, according to the BBC.

Bionic (仿生的) eyes

They are no longer something only in a science fiction movie. People who are blind may have a chance to see things clearly—by wearing bionic eyes.

A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send information to the mind. Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. A bionic eye with very clear pictures could be just in a few years away.

Digital money

We used to pay with cash for everything we bought. Now when we use a Wechat Pay or Alipay to shop, money is spent without us seeing it. That means we are already using digital money. People only need to take a mobile phone wherever they go. Using these ways is much easier than searching our pockets for change. It is also safer than carrying a lot of cash.

It’s reported that people in Sweden completely stopped using cash last year, and the US might be next.

Self-driving cars

Unlike a human driver, a self-driving car won’t be influenced by a phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors (探测器) and cameras on the car would allow it to follow the rules of the road and keep a safe space from other cars. This would greatly make the number of road accidents smaller. You could even take a rest while the car drives itself. In the future, driverless cars would be widely accepted.

1. Which of the following payments is not mentioned in this passage?
A.Cash.B.Wechat Pay.C.Alipay.D.Credit card.
2. Bionic eyes send information to the _______.
A.computerB.cameraC.mindD.heart
3. This passage tells us that _______.
A.bionic eyes only appear in the science fiction films
B.the blind wearing bionic eyes may see clearly in the future
C.self-driving cars will be influenced by something outside
D.there will be no accident at all if self-driving cars are used
4. We can infer (推断) that ______ from the passage.
A.the blind could use glasses to see things around
B.robots would control the world
C.there would be a number of self-driving cars on the road
D.we would live a hard life with digital money
