Do you like watching TV or playing games? How many hours do you use your phone a day? We call the time we spend on TV, computers and phones “screen (屏幕) time”.
In a study (研究), scientists (科学家) ask 577, 000 children how much time they spend on screens, schoolwork and sports every day. They find about 68% of them spend more than 2 hours on screens.
Two hours of screen time a day is bad for children’s health. The study shows harm (伤害) starts after 75 minutes of screen time for girls and 105 minutes for boys. Why is that? “Just because ▲ . In our study, 24% of boys spend an hour a day doing sports, but only 14% of girls do that,” Dr. Khan says.
So it is important for students to do sports and balance (平衡) their screen time. Tom has a “three-time system(系统) for his son Patrick—a “go time” for schoolwork, a “slow time” to play games or talk with friends on the Internet and a “green time” for sports. “We need to get children out and move. They can walk, ride a bike and play football,” he says.

This is an old English saying(谚语). Do you know it before? It says that we must go to bed early and get up early in the morning. Then we should be healthy. We should also be rich (wealthy) and clever (wise).
This is true. The body must have enough(足够的)sleep to be healthy. Children of a young age should have ten hours' sleep every night. Children who don't have enough sleep can't do their work very well. They will not be wise and they may not become wealthy!
The body also needs exercise. Walking, running, jumping, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps the body strong.
Exercise also keeps the blood(血液)moving around inside the body. This is very important. Our blood takes food to all parts of our body. The head also needs blood. Exercise helps us to think better!

The word “robot” itself comes from a play written in 1920 by Karel Capek. In the play, people create robots to do some everyday tasks.
Today, most robots don’t look like human. Modern robots take many forms and are good at many things, from sweeping the floors in your home to working in factories. They are even exploring the surface of the moon. They bring many benefits (益处) to people. But there is an interesting irony (讽刺) in the world of robots which describes a surprising problem: What humans find easy is extremely complicated for a robot. However, what humans find difficult is pretty easy for a robot. For example, picking up clothes in a messy room is simple for people. But that kind of chore is very hard for a robot. Another example is the game of chess. People might find it difficult to win the game of chess all the time. But robots like Alpha-Go can be programmed to play it very well.
This is because robots are very good at doing things in controlled environments. However, moving through a room filled with random (随机的) objects is hard for robots, along with picking up objects of different shapes and sizes without damaging them. In short, it is very difficult for them to deal with certain types of variables (变量).
It turns out that one of the most difficult things to improve in robots is their ability to control objects. Luckily, great progress is being made in the development of robots. On the one hand, exciting developments in making human-like hands and legs are underway. On the other hand, the biggest progress might result from using virtual learning (虚拟学习) to “teach” robots through computer simulations (模拟).
In this way, robots can “guess” what to do without an order when they meet unfamiliar things in the real world.
Soon, robots may be able to do those things that humans find simple. That means big changes in what robots can do and how they can help us with daily tasks. Robots might make movies a reality.
1. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?A.To give an example. | B.To lead in the topic. |

It happens during the stage when a baby’s babbling (咿呀声) gradually changes from unclear voices into that first “mama” or “dada”. The baby in order to do like you has to find out how to shape their lips to make that particular (特别的) sound they are hearing, according to developmental psychologist David Lewkowicz of Florida Atlantic University, who led the study.
Apparently it doesn’t take them too long to understand the movements that match basic sounds. By their first birthdays, babies start changing back to look you in the eye again. It offers more evidence (证据) that quality (高质量的) face time with babies is very important for speech development more than turning on the latest baby DVD. But Lewkowicz went a step further. He and his student Amy Hansen Tift tested nearly 180 babies, groups of them at ages 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months.
How? They showed videos of a woman speaking in English or Spanish to babies of English speakers. They found that when the speaker used English, the 4-month-olds gazed (凝视) mostly into her eyes. The 6-month-olds spent equal amounts of time looking at the eyes and the mouth. The 8 and 10-month-olds studied mostly the mouth. At 12 months, attention started changing back toward the speaker’s eyes.
But what happened when these babies who were used to English heard Spanish? The 12-month-olds studied the mouth longer, just like younger babies. They needed the extra information to recognize the unfamiliar sounds. That fits with research into bilingualism (双语) that shows babies’ brains adjust themselves to distinguishing (区别) the sounds of their native language over other languages in the first year of life. The continued lip-reading shows the 1-year-olds clearly still are fit for learning. Babies are so hard to study that this is “a fairly heroic data set”, says Duke University cognitive neuroscientist (神经学家) Greg Appelbaum, who found the research so attractive that he wants to know more.

The tension between teenagers and their family mainly comes from the struggle to balance what they want with family hopes. You once spent most of your free time with your parents. When you want to spend more and more time with your friends, your parents may be upset. They feel you may be out of control. And you might feel angry that so many family requirements are placed on you. Here are a few things you can try to ease the tension between you and your family.
●Tell your plan to your parents in advance and ask them whether they have anything else to add to your plan.
●When your buddy activities interfere with a family event, try to find a way to do both. You can spend a little time with each group. You can go to the family event and ask to be with your friends next time. You can also invite your friends to the family event.
●Suggest doing something with your family. When your parents know you want to spend time with them, they will feel better.
The results cannot always make both satisfied. Anyway, the tension can be eased if you consider the feelings of your family as well as those of yourself and your friends.
