It’s reported that exports (出口) of luosifen, a dish known for its strong smell in the southern city of Liuzhou, Guangxi, have seen great growth in the first half of this year.
Around ¥7.5 million worth of luosifen was exported from Liuzhou from January to June this year, eight times the total export value in 2019. Besides the traditional export markets like the United States, Australia and Germany, shipments of the food were also sent to new markets including Singapore and New Zealand.
Mixing the traditional cuisine (烹饪风格) of the Han people with that of the Miao and Dong ethnic groups, luosifen is a dish of rice noodles boiled with pickled (腌泡过的) bamboo shoots dried turnip, fresh vegetables and peanuts in the river snail soup. It gives out a strong smell after being boiled.
Listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Guangxi in 2008, the dish played an important role in the food documentary A Bite of China in 2012. Its special taste has won the hearts of food lovers, and it became one of the best-selling ready-to-serve foods during the COVID-19 epidemic in China.
To make it popular among foreign people, local producers have made some changes to luosifen. “Luosifen is traditionally made from river snail soup, but we have developed a new product that uses the beef bone soup which has the same taste. It is very well received,” said Liu Qingshi, chairman of Liuzhou Luozhuangyuan Food CoLtd., a major luosifen producer.

Science has also found amazing ways to keep people healthy. Nanotechnology(纳米技术) can help cure(治愈) many illnesses, including cancer. And if any part of your body is unhealthy, you can “grow” a new one in a laboratory(实验室).
On the way to the kitchen, you want to call a friend. Your cell phone is by the window because it gets its energy(电量) from the sun. But you don’t need to pick up the phone. You can just touch your jacket sleeve to make the call.
It’s breakfast time. You reach for the milk, but a voice says, “Don’t drink that!” Your fridge knows the milk is old, and tells the supermarket to replace it. Ten minutes later, it’s delivered by a drone(无人机).
As you leave for work, the lights turn off by themselves. Your home goes into “sleep” mode to save energy.
Will all this come true? Perhaps the future is much closer than we think.

These pigments appear in different amounts (数量), depending on the fruit’s environment. This causes the fruit to turn a certain color.
To find out how environment influences fruit colors, Chinese scientists studied more than 280 different fruit colors. They found that red fruits are likely to grow in cooler places. You can find them growing in many places around the world instead of just in one place. Blue and purple fruits mostly grow in warmer places. They grow a lot in just one specific (特定的) area. The closer the fruit is to the equato (赤道), the darker its color will be.
Animals also have an influence on the development of fruit colors. Animals eat fruit and drop the seeds (种子) in other places later. This helps the fruit spread and grow in different places. Therefore, in order to attract (吸引) animals, some fruits develop colors that are easy to see. However, animals see colors in a different way. Fruit needs to develop colors that are suited to animals’ visual (视觉的) abilities. For example, birds can see red more easily than humans can. So there tends to be more red fruit in areas where birds live.
