Keep Safe in a Car!

Cars can bring us lots of fun and convenience, but they could also bring us much danger. So we have to be very careful when we drive them or ride in them.

First, it's always a good idea to put on seat belt when you're in a car. Why? Think about this example: You put an egg on a skateboard and give it a push. If the skateboard hits a stone on its way or another skateboard hits yours, it will stop, but the egg won't—it will fly through the air, fall down to the ground and break. Again, think about what would happen if you tie the egg to the skateboard. When the skateboard hits a stone or another skateboard hits yours, the egg won't go flying—it will stay safely on the skateboard. Now you must know how important it is to put on your seat belt when you're in a car.

Air bags are also very important to car safety because sometimes a seat belt isn't enough. If the car goes really fast and runs into something, seat belts could even hurt the people who wear them. So most of the newest cars have air bags in front of and next to the seats. Shout out

It seems that food deliverymen (送餐员) are always in a rush. They wear blue, red or yellow helmets and many of them don’t follow the traffic rules. They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving.

However, not everything goes well with food deliverymen. Food deliverymen have many traffic accidents every year. They get hurt or even die in the accidents. What a terrible thing it is!

What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the anxious customers (焦虑的顾客) may be the answer. Many companies will fine a deliveryman up to 2000 yuan if he fails to deliver an order on time, reported by China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews (评价) from customers.

To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to improve their incentive systems (激励制度), noted CRI Online. Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman gets caught breaking the traffic rules more than twice, then he will be banned from driving food service delivery vehicles for a whole year.

When disaster（灾难）happens, you might find yourself without water, gas and electricity. You might even need to leave your home right away. So you are supposed to plan for bad situations before the disaster comes. Here are some suggestions:

First, have a family meeting. Plan a way to get your family members together if you can’t find each other after the disaster. Choose two places for everyone to go to if it isn’t safe to return home. The first should be near your house. You can go there in an emergency（紧急情况）like a fire. The second should be outside your neighbourhood.

Next, choose a person outside your area who can help your family get in touch with each other. After a disaster, it is often easier to communicate over a long-distance call than a local one. The person can pass messages between your family members.

Then, get a family disaster kit（灾难应急包）ready. It should include things your family needs, such as bread, water and things like that. The kit can help you survive at least for three days. Put everything in a bag so you can carry it if you leave in a hurry. When doing it, remember that different people have different needs. Include special things necessary for elderly or young members of your family.

Finally, practice your emergency plan, and update（更新）it as necessary.

You may not be able to stop disasters, but with a little planning you can be helped.

When Sean Aiken bought a bike helmet (头盔), he never thought it would help him so soon. Only a week later, it saved his life. He was hit by a car while riding home from school in Tucson, Arizona. His bike was broken into pieces in the accident. But Sean was alive. His helmet protected him from serious head injury (伤). “I used to think helmets were unnecessary. I thought I would never get hurt,” Sean said. “But it can and will happen to you if you’re not careful.” Sean later spoke before the Tucson City Council (委员会) about the need of bike-helmet laws. This led to a new Arizona law that requires people under the age of 18 to wear a bike helmet while cycling.

Fifteen-year-old Mike Jones of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, knows about safety. Two years ago, he was seriously hurt in a car accident. Mike hurt his head badly when he was thrown from a van. “I don’t know why I didn’t wear a safety belt that day. Now I always wear it,” Mike said. Today, he can still think of that experience. “I used to love sports, but I can’t do them anymore. I can’t risk getting another serious injury,” he said.

Like Mike, many people around the US are becoming more safety-wise. “Parents can’t watch kids every minute. Kids must know how to be safe. It’s their control and power,” says Susan Gallagher, the director of the Safety Network.

New technology is also helping to prevent injuries. More people than ever before use products such as fire alarms in their houses and seat belts in their cars. Most cyclists know that they should use bike helmets. New laws, such as the bike-helmet law Sean Aiken helped pass are also making more people use these products. The number of serious injuries caused by car accidents and fires has gone down over the years.

Kids are taking actions to help prevent injuries. Like Sean Aiken and Mike Jones, they know that safety works.

With the improvement of people’s living conditions, more and more people choose to buy and live in high-rise buildings. However, it’s not easy to run away for life in a high-rise building fire. How will we save ourselves when there is a high-rise building fire? Here is some great advice.

Know where the fire exits. This way, you may find a safe way to escape (逃生) very quickly. When running in a fire, bend down (弯腰) and bring an escape mask ( 口罩) or a wet towel. To avoid breathing in harmful gases, you can use them to cover your mouth and nose.

When there is a fire, try to get out of your house as fast as possible. Stop thinking about money and expensive things in your home. Life is more important. But when the door handle (手柄) is too hot or dark smoke pours into your house, don’t open the door at once.

If the fire starts on your floor or the upper floor, run down through the exit as quickly as possible. But if the fire starts on the floor below yours and fire is on the way, be careful to wait at home for help. While waiting for help in the house, you can cover the door with wet towels or clothes. If possible, keep cooling the door with water.

Finally, never take a lift or jump off the building in a fire. Try to be smart and think of all ways to save yourself.

When your friend does not use polite words, it seems that she is ordering you to do something. So you have every right to hate her behaviors.

Ask her why she doesn’t use “please” and “thank you”. Explain to her that it makes you uncomfortable. Also, you don’t want to do anything for her because she doesn’t seem kind or pleasant when she asks you to.

Your friend was probably never taught how to use “please” and “thank you” in normal conversation. So you can try to teach her that. Remember that it is difficult to find another close friend if you lose one.
