“My nine-year-old daughter is in Grade Four. Every evening we get into an argument about her homework. Three afternoons a week, she has activities (netball, singing) after school and when we get home, homework is the last thing she likes doing. The other two days, she got home early and we argued about whether she should do her homework right after school, or whether she should have some time to rest and play first. When Maria at last sat down to do her homework, she seemed to want me to be there all the time. But I had something else to do. It seems that children these days have much more homework than we did, and some of it is really difficult for them. As you can see, I’m really worried about her homework and I really don’t know what I should do. Any ideas?”

There’s a lot of discussion about healthy kids. Parents want to know how to help kids be healthy.
Being healthy is a way of saying a person eats well, gets a lot of exercise, and has a healthy weight. If you’re healthy, your body works well, feels good, and can do all the things you want to do, like running around with your friends.
Here are five rules to live by, if you’re a kid who wants to be healthy.
Do not be picky about food. What you like eating doesn’t mean they are healthy. If you eat many kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables, you’re more likely to get the nutrients your body needs.
When you’re really thirsty, cold water is the No. 1 for you. Kids need calcium to build strong bones, and milk is good to do that.
What does it feel like to be full? When you’re eating, notice how your body feels and when your stomach feels comfortably full. Eating too much can make you feel uncomfortable and, over a period of time, can lead to unhealthy weight gain.
Do you know the blue light? It’s a kind of light that comes from the screens of many electronic devices, like TVs, computers and smart phones. Too much blue light can stop you from getting sleepy and you will sleep badly.
Besides watching TV or playing computer games, why not go out to exercise and do some sports? So when your mom or dad says it’s time to stop staring at the screen, put down your iPhone, pick up your basketball and enjoy some games outdoors!
Tell your parents about these rules. If you’re a healthy kid, why shouldn’t you have a healthy mom and a healthy dad?
A.Do Sports |
B.Don’t Stay Up Late |
C.Don’t Eat Too Much |
D.Spend Less Screen Time |
E.Drink Water and Milk Most Often |
F.Eat Different Kinds of Food |
