When you go shopping, you can see many shop windows along the streets. The clothes in the windows are very beautiful. Some people like to stand in front of them watching but not buying them. This way of shopping is called window-shopping. It is a new and popular way of shopping.
As a student, I don’t have much money for clothes of some famous brands(品牌). But when I do window-shopping, I can find out what is in fashion(流行时尚), and I don’t need to pay(付) any money.
We always think that the things we can’t get — are always the best. When you see a nice dress, you like it very much and buy it at once. I look at my son and we both say nothing, but John has a smile on his face. This dark and woolen coat is popular with boys, and a new one could cost $300. John tries it on and turns from side to side (边), looking at himself in the mirror (镜子). It fits him so well.
John wears the coat to school the next day. When he comes home, I ask, “Do your classmates like your coat?” “They love it very much.” he says with a big grin.
Over the next few weeks, John changes. He is very happy, polite (有礼貌的) and helpful (乐于助人的). “Good morning, mom. Have a nice day!”, “Good night, mom, I love you!” he says to me happily. After he comes home from school, he smiles to me and helps me with housework. When I say something about his homework, he isn’t angry with me, he says to me, “You’re right, mom. I will try it better next time.” When I talk about his changes to his teacher, she says that the coat may have changed him.
John and I both know we should never judge (评判) a man by his clothes. But it is true that when wearing nice and comfortable clothes, we may try to be polite and helpful, to match what is on the inside to what is on the outside.

According to studies, the volume (音量)of music changes how people shop. Customers shop quickly when store music is very loud. They hurry through the store, but they buy just as much. When music is quiet, customers shop slowly. Customers take time to look at the products and talk with the salespeople. Quiet music is good for products that take time and information to buy.
Slow music makes people slow down. In restaurants with slow music, customers spend more time eating. Slow music also slows down customers in supermarkets. Customers notice more products as they walk through the store. With slow music in supermarkets, sales go up by 38 percent.
Familiar(熟悉的) music gives shoppers a good idea of time. People know the beginning, middle, and end of a familiar song. When customers hear music that is not familiar, they don’t notice the time. When they don’t notice the time, they spend more time shopping and buy more. People remember past experiences and feelings when they hear familiar music. Many stores play old, happy music so customers feel good. When customers hear new music, they forget about the world outside of the store. Some stores use new music so their customers relax while they shop.
Stores choose music that fits their products. A bookstore plays quiet classical music and jazz (爵土乐). It gives the store a serious and intelligent feeling.

According to the American Optometric Association, 70 to 75 percent of computer workers have eye problems.
Digital eyestrain(视疲劳)is one of the most common problems. People with digital eyestrain may get headaches, dry and red eyes, eye pain, watering and other problems.
These problems have started to increase among children. “Children get cellphones at younger ages and are using them very often during the day,” Sarah Hinkley, spokeswoman for the American Optometric Association, told USA Today.
The good news it that there are many things you can do to reduce digital eyestrain.
When using a computer, first sit in your chair and reach out your arm. Your hand should rest comfortably on the screen, as if you’re high-fiving the screen. Put some books under the computer until your eyes feel comfortable.
When you are using a mobile phone, keep it at least 30cm from your eyes and just below eye level. Try not to use it under sunlight.
Remember to take a 20-20-20 break: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet(about 6 meters)away.

①A new study has shown how the colour of a bowl can influence the taste of the food it holds.
②Although it is hard to say what a picky eater (挑食的人) is like, the type may include people who have a limited diet, who have strong likes or dislikes for certain food, who require food to be prepared in a special way, who aren’t willing to accept new food, or who show signs of all these features.
③According to this new study, food was put into two groups in red, blue, or white bowls. While the colour made no difference in taste for non-picky eaters, the picky eaters reported changes in their taste senses based on the colour of the bowl being used. Snacks in red and blue bowls were thought to have more salt than those in white bowls, while snacks in red bowls were less pleasant than those in the other bowls.
④ “This knowledge can be useful for those who want to try more kinds of foods,” says Lorenzo Stafford, a psychologist from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. “For example, if you want to encourage a picky eater to try some bitter (苦的) vegetables, you can try to put them on a pink plate or in a yellow bowl, because this can give him or her a sweet feeling.”
⑤At first it may seem strange that a bowl colour can influence the taste of food, but the research before has shown how light and music can influence eating habits. All of our senses are connected, including taste.
⑥ “This new study can help in treating food neophobia—the unwillingness to try new food,” the team of the study says, and further studies will be required to find out more relationships between colours and foods.
⑦ “Through further studies, maybe we can decide ways to help actively influence a person’s diet, and as a result, their health in mind and body,” says Stafford.
