Today, most Scotsmen see kilts as formal (正式的) dresses. They usually only wear them at weddings or big dinners. There are only a few men who still wear a kilt every day. Father’s Day has become important in North America. And shopkeepers (店主) found it was a good way to get people to buy presents for their fathers from their shops.

More and more countries are having Mother’s Day, so maybe Father’s Day will also become popular before too long. Now, what do people in North America do on Father’s Day? The newspapers, radios, and TVs tell children they should buy a Father’s Day present for their fathers. They even tell a wife to buy a Father’s Day present—not for her father but for her husband, even if he is not yet a father. Now people around the world celebrate Friendship Day. Do you know the stories behind it?
An American woman, Joyce Hall, sold cards. In1930, she got the idea of Friendship Day. She thought if people had a new day to celebrate, they would buy more cards. Many Americans gave cards and other gifts to their friends on the day. However they stopped doing it because they didn’t want to see it become commercialized(商业化的). In 1935, the US Congress(美国国会)decided to make it the first Sunday of August. It became a day for true friends.
The story behind Friendship Day is different in Paraguay (巴拉圭). In 1958 a group of friends in Paraguay decided to celebrate friendship on July 30 every year. One man in the group, Ramon, wanted to do more. He worked hard to start celebrations in other countries. Thanks to his work, more countries took up the idea. Friendship Day was growing.
In 2011, the United Nations declared(联合国宣布)July 30 national Day of Friendship. On that day, there are activities in different countries, like fun runs and friendly games.
