【推荐3】When I was 11, I looked into Dad’s lunch box and discovered that my mother still showed her love towards my father—on top of the sandwiches was a piece of paper, “Love you!” she had written on it, “Enjoy it!”

Mom wrote all kinds of messages to Dad on the paper, and he saved all of them. This has become my precious(珍贵的) memory of my parents.

It also started my own lunch box notes. When my kids were young, I’d glue (贴) little drawings on their lunches. Lots of sketches (素描) of our dog, Max, with smiling flowers. When they were teenagers, I’d copy words of wisdom from great people, like Einstein. Then, my kids grew up making their own handwritten(手写的) notes. And my husband writes me love notes on recycled paper. Because he’s very green.

We’re into the third generation (代) of lunch box notes in our home. My 3-year-old grandson, Clayton, knows his lunch is going to have a note from grandma in the morning. Last week, I drew a picture of me, waving widely and shouting his name. He took a look at it and shouted, “Where’s grandpa?” I added a man in a clean shirt. Clayton smiled. “Grandpa,” he whispered, running his fingers across the paper. “It’s you!”
