A foreign student is studying at a university in Jiangxi Province. One day, she could not help singing a song when she saw thousands of Siberian white cranes (西伯利亚鹤) dancing on the Poyang Lake. Each year, these cranes start their long journey from Siberia to China.
The Siberian white cranes are also known as the snow cranes. They are in danger of dying out. Now there are only about 4,000 Siberian white cranes all over the world. Experts (专家) say the Siberian white cranes are special. If they are hurt in one place, they will never go there again. Chinese researchers first discovered the Siberian white cranes in the Poyang Lake in 1980. Now, about 98 per cent of such cranes spend their winter there. Their migrating route (迁徙路线) is well protected. In 2017, a photography lover, together with many bird lovers, built the Siberian crane protected area. It’s for scientific research, education and photography. It’s known as “human’s closest place to Siberian cranes”. Every year, these beautiful cranes fly to this area.
The birds know whether (是否) the natural environment is good or not. They are like “ecological (生态学的) test paper” for the environment. We should protect the beautiful birds.

Power stations and cars release (释放) so many greenhouse gases every day. So we can help stop global(全球) warming by using less electric things such as turning off lights when we leave a room, asking our parents to turn down the heating in our house to save energy. We can also stop global warming by finding other ways of transportation. For example, ride a bicycle or walk instead of going by car. Another way to help stop global warming is to plant and care for trees. Because trees take in CO2 , they are our best friends when fighting against global warming.
The problem of global warming cannot be solved in a day. It may take a long time to find clean energy, such as wind energy. It may take a long time to plant the trees again we are cutting down. But every little thing each person can do to save energy and our forests will help. Think about our planet. Think about ways we can help make the Earth a safe and comfortable place for the future.

Now a new one, Our Planet, can let us see different animals and the influence of humans on the natural world. The documentary covers 50 countries and areas. It took more than four years to produce it.
With the latest 4K video technology, the show allows people a wonderful new look at nature. “People are given a chance to better get themselves into the lives of the animals.” said Fothergill, one of the show’s producers.
Besides showing Earth’s beauty, the documentary also talks about the planet’s climate conditions. Our Planet is here to say, “The planet is dying, and were killing it.” Fothergill said none sad scene, hundreds of walruses(海象), half-blind when out of the water, fall down a rock and suffer a painful death on the beach below. It shows how the climate conditions have influenced their natural habitat and explains why they’ve been forced to find the safe place on the rocks.
But the documentary is not all about sadness. It also talks about success stories, such as the ones of tigers. These animals are saved and live happily thanks to international agreements on environmental protection.
Asking more people to take action in protecting our plant is the final goal of the new documentary. What we do in the next 20 years will decide the future of all life on Earth.

Looking at screens at night can make us sleep badly, according to a US study. In the evening, our bodies make melatonin(褪黑素). Melatonin makes us feel sleepy and relaxer. It’s more important than any other part of our sleep cycle.
Phones, computers and TVs make blue light. Blue light stops our bodies from making melatonin. Even just a little bit off blue light can have a big influence. Eight minutes of blue light can keep your brain “awake” for another hour. Blue light can penetrate(穿透) our eyes. If you look at blue light for over 30 hours, you may get blind. Even if you fall asleep, you may have lots of dreams. Your brain won’t have a good rest.
It’s even worse to play an exciting game before going to bed. Games make our hearts beat faster, so we have a tougher time falling asleep. Then, when we fall asleep, we don’t get enough “deep sleep”. Deep sleep helps teenagers grow stronger.

From the back of the large trucks, a great town band start to throw tomatoes at others. Then the crowds fight back, throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice.

There are many reasons why species become endangered but most of them are because of humans. However, there are things that we can do to save endangered species.
Habitat(栖息地)destruction is the main reason why animals become endangered. When humans move into a new area, the animals’ habitat is destroyed and there is nothing to eat because humans cut down trees and build houses and farms.
Endangered species are also the result of overhunting and overfishing. Some seal species are endangered because they are killed for their fur to make coats. Tigers are shot to make medicine and crocodiles are caught to make bags and shoes. Other animals are killed for their fur, bones or skin, or just for sports. Overfishing means that large sea animals like whales and sharks have all become endangered species, because too many are caught to make things like shark’s fin soup.
So what can people and governments do to protect animals and stop species from becoming endangered? We should not pollute natural areas, and the public can help by not buying any products that are made from animals’ body parts, such as seal fur coats or crocodile bags. Governments can help, too, by making it against the law to hunt, fish, buy or sell endangered species. They can also provide money for nature reserves and zoos. If we all work together by taking these steps, we will protect our planet so that our children and their children can keep living in harmony with other creatures, too.
1. What is the writing purpose of this passage?A.To call for actions to save endangered animals. | B.To explain why animals are endangered. |
C.To introduce different endangered animals. | D.To tell why we need to protect endangered animals. |
A.development | B.protection | C.damage | D.pollution |
A.Human’s movement is good for animals’ habitat. |
B.Governments can hardly help stop species from becoming endangered. |
C.Some seal species are killed to make medicine. |

Without ice, the bears must walk on the bank which is away from their main food source. That means the animals will be in danger because of lacking food.
“There’s not enough food on land to support a polar bear population.” Doctor Smith, the study’s lead writer said. Lacking of food induces another problem. Mother bears may not be fat enough to produce milk for their babies. Some bear populations could stop having babies, leading to a rapid drop in numbers.
Arctic (北极) sea ice usually melts in the spring and summer, and then grows in the winter. But now, the ice is taking longer to grow back. Weather reports say the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet. Ice here has reduced 13% every 10 years since the 1970s. The Arctic is home to about 25, 000 polar bears. Scientists have known that the animals are in danger.
But the study also notes that it is still possible to slow Arctic melting. The world can reduce the burning of fossil fuels (石化燃料) and lower the greenhouse gas. “Saving the polar bears is up to us, I believe that there is hope. But humans need to act quickly to turn that hope into a reality.” Doctor Smith said.
