Most children like to have parties for their birthdays because they can ask their friends to go to their parties. The birthday boy or girl is in nice clothes. They play games, sing, dance and eat. At the birthday party, the birthday cake is their favorite food. Their parents buy a birthday cake for them and there are some candles (蜡烛) on it. Everyone sings the birthday song and says “Happy birthday” to the birthday boy or girl. If you see twelve candles, it is his or her twelfth birthday.
The children usually get gifts (礼物) from their friends and parents. They are happy to have them. In China, children always open the gifts after the party. But in England children open them at once (立刻) and then say “thank you”. If you have a birthday friend, go and buy a gift for him or her.

The children between the age of 10—14 will have a “sleepover” party. Usually this kind of party is on a Friday or a Saturday night when the children do not have lessons the next morning. For this kind of party, the birthday person invites about 5—6 close friends over for dinner. After dinner, the children will eat cakes and icecream, and the birthday person will open his or her gifts. During the evening, the children may go ice skating, go to watch basketball or soccer games or something else. Also, the children will eat pancakes at midnight and then go on talking and playing games, such as card games or computer games. In the next morning, the mother will make a big breakfast of some nice food such as cakes, bread with meat or eggs. Then their parents will pick up the children at about nine o’clock the next morning.

But the other four balls, family, health, friends and spirit, are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be broken. They will never be the same. You must understand that and try to balance (平衡) them. So please treat your life in a right way. But how?
Don’t look down on your worth (价值) by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different and each of us is special.
Don’t let other people set goals (目标) for you. Only you know what is best for yourself.
Don’t give up easily. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying. If you insist (坚持), you’ll have hope of success.
Don’t be afraid of difficulties. Be brave!
Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you are going.
Don’t be afraid to learn. Knowledge is a treasure you can always carry easily.
