It’s lunchtime. You’re hungry and want to get your favorite meal in the restaurant, but there is a queue of people nearly reaching the door. Don’t worry-in cyber world (网络世界), you can get your meal just by a few clicks.
“Shopping has never been so easy. With just a single click on your mouse, anything that you order online can be taken to your door in no time,” said Bian Jing, who is twenty years old. She took part in an online survival (生存) competition held in Beijing. Each competitor had to go online and buy enough food and drink to last them for 100 hours using the little money given. “I don’t want to spend too much time shopping, so I do it online rather than in an ordinary (普通的) store,” said a girl from a middle school. “It’s easy to find the things you want online as they have catalogues. Shoppers who go online can also find lower prices and wider choices of things they want to buy.
But many teachers and parents are worried that online shopping is becoming too popular.
“It’s not a good way for middle school students to spend their money,” said a teacher. “I don’t like them to shop online.” As all the students’ money is from their parents, it’s said that they aren’t ready to pay for what they have bought online.” There’s also the danger that they’ll lose the money at online stores that just want to cheat (欺骗) shoppers,” one of the teachers said.
Most parents, though, don’t want to pay the bills when their children spend too much on the Internet.” I hate having to pay unexpected bills,” said one father. “But my son always surprises me with them”

Do you know anything about the way of shopping in Western countries(西方国家)? People there usually make shopping lists first and then they go shopping. Most people like going to the supermarkets because they can get almost everything in one supermarket, like many kinds of clothes, food and sports things. And the things in supermarkets are cheaper(更便宜).When they get into the supermarket, they carry a basket. Then they pick things and put them into the basket. After they get everything they want, they pay the money. Most people go to the supermarket once a week.

It is such a fine day, so my mother and I decide to go shopping. We buy many things for the member of my family. We buy my grandfather a blue hat because he likes hats. The hat costs us 56 yuan. We spend 168 yuan on that purple skirt. It's for my grandmother. Her favorite colour is purple. My father enjoys music. So we buy some CDs for him. We pay 89 yuan for it. My mother likes bags very much, so she buys herself two small bags. They are red. It is 218 yuan each. I like playing table tennis. These black table tennis shoes are for me. The price of them is 150yuan.

Dear readers,
I know that Abraham Lincoln(阿伯拉罕·林肯)was the tallest American President. He stood six feet four inches tall. I also know that he was the first President in the White House to wear a beard(胡须)and that he was the first one to appear on a coin. Now, after reading Laugh with Lincoln in this month’s magazine. I’ve also learned that this president may have had the strongest funny bone!
In all the pictures of Lincoln I’ve seen, his face always looked very serious. In fact, he had many important responsibilities, and he had to make many hard decisions. But people have studied his life say that Lincoln often laughed and joked.
He used humour(幽默)to help people think about the thing in a new and better way. He understood that sharing laughter could help us connect and become friends. I am sure his sense of humour was one of the reasons that made him a great president—and a loving father and husband I’m glad that I know a little more about the sixteenth president of the United States. And I think I’ll find a good joke to tell on Presidents’ Day—If you know a funny one, I hope you’ll send it to me!
Happy ending!
Your friend,
Christine

【推荐2】Dear Han Hua,
Great changes have taken place in your city these years. It’s really good news that you can travel by high speed rail in Weihai, though there’s only one line there. Here in London, we have so many lines. By the way, we don’t use the word “subway” here. It’s American English. We call it “the underground” instead.
The London underground is very famous. It’s famous for several reasons. First of all, part of the underground railway today is the oldest in the world, which opened in 1863. Secondly, the London underground is also the first line to have electric trains, in 1890. Thirdly, the London underground is the second largest metro system in the world, after the Shanghai Metro. There are 270 stations in the underground and it has 402 kilometers of tracks. What’s more, the city of London itself helps make the transportation system famous! I’ve got a few photos to help you build a clear picture of the underground in my city. They’re together with this mail.
In your e-mail, you also said workers were building more lines. I’m sure your city is developing fast. Maybe you can send me a few photos of your city today. I really want to see the changes taking place there. I’m happy for you to live there in a modern city with such a new look!
So much for now. I’ll write soon again. Best wishes.
1. Where’s the writer from?Tony: Hello, everyone. I am Tony, the group leader. These are my group members, Betty, Daming and Lingling. As we know, Zhoushan is a beautiful city with a long history. And there are a lot of ancient buildings here, for example, the courtyard of Family Lan(蓝府大院). We chose this ancient building as our project target(项目任务). How much do you know about it? I hope our project can help you. Here is our presentation.
Betty: I’ll introduce the process. First we made a plan about the time we would need and how to do the project. It took us three weekends to do online searching, visit the places, interview the local people and make the leaflet.
Daming: After collecting all the information and doing the necessary study, we have made it into a leaflet as our product. Let’s take a look. It was a late Qing Dynasty building backing northwest and facing southeast. It is now made up of a front house, a main house, a back house, and east and west wing rooms. It covers an area of about 1208 square meters and a building area of about 960 square meters. In 2001, it was announced as a municipal cultural preservation unit(市级文保点). This building was the residence(居所)of the descendants(后人)of Lan Li who served as the general soldier of Dinghai in the late Qing Dynasty. As the general soldier of Dinghai, Lan Li made great achievement to the development of Zhoushan. The buildings of the Courtyard of Family Lan are well protected, and have high historical and cultural meaning.
Lingling: What we’d like to share with you most is our gains and feelings. We are all amazed by the creativity of the builders of the ancient buildings and feel so proud of our hometown. There’s no doubt that they are really worth protecting.
Tony: Now, what do you think of our project? Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thank you.
