On Sept 12, 2017, Apple introduced its iPhone X, which has an eye-catching feature - Face ID.
With Face ID, you can unlock your new iPhone by just looking at it. It is powered by a camera system TrueDepth in the front of the iPhone X.
When the camera system sees a person’s face, it uses 30,000 unseen dots (点) to “map” (勾画) the shape and outline of the face. A model of the face will then be created and stored in the phone.
The next time the person looks at the iPhone X, the same dots are mapped onto his or her face and compared to the stored model. If the two match, then the phone unlocks. This happens in less than a second.
Apple says the system is smart. If you change your hairstyle, put on sunglasses or makeup, or use the phone in the dark, Face ID still works.
Although the technology sounds amazing, there are still concerns. For example, will Face ID work for twins? What if someone uses a photo in front of the iPhone X?
According to Apple, the chance of others to unlock your iPhone X using Face ID is one in a million. Face ID can tell the difference between twins, but the error rating (出错率) rises.
Apple also emphasizes (强调) that Face ID is smart enough only to work when you want it to. It only unlocks when you open your eyes and stare at(盯住) it. So the phone won’t unlock if you are just glancing at the phone to know the time. It won’t work either if someone puts the phone at your sleeping face or your photo.

C.unlock their cell phones | D.create their face models easily |

A.they have changed their hairstyles | B.they glance the phone for the time |
C.they use it without turning on the lights | D.they wear makeup |
A.achievements | B.worries | C.reward | D.knowledge |
A.We can unlock a smart phone in three different ways. |
B.Apple’s iPhone X can’t tell the differences between different faces. |
C.People don’t believe it’s safe to use Face ID. |

666 It is an interesting number. It shows very bad luck in some western countries but very good luck in many Asian countries. For example, there used to be US Highway 666 in New Mexico, but in 2003 it was changed to US Highway 491 because officials were afraid that the number would scare tourists away. But in Asia, people love “666” because it sounds like “things going smoothly”.
4 This number means bad luck in Asia. For example, the pronunciation of “4” in Japanese is very similar to the word “death”. And because of this, “4” has been thought bad luck in Japan.
13 People all over the world don’t like “13”. American and Canadian buildings don’t have the thirteenth floor in their floor. Friday the 13th is thought to be a very bad day.
