Friendship can’t be measured (测量) nor can it be weighed. We stopped a few people on the street to find out what part friendship played in their lives. Here is what they said.

“My best friend Mark and I really enjoy spending time playing basketball every evening. Even over 10 years after college, we still get the same amount of joy when playing basketball together,” said James, 34.

“The importance of friendship in my life is more than what I can put into words. My childhood friends recently pulled me through hard times when I went through a divorce (离婚),” said Gemina.

Jane, 21, a student, was in a hurry when we stopped her to ask her the question. She left us with just one line which makes a lot of sense. Jane said, “We all should wake up and realize the true importance of friendship because friends accept you for what you are, not for what you can be.” We think Jane has hit the nail (钉子) on the head.

Tom, 42, said, “I didn’t realize the importance of friendship until it was too late. I didn’t keep in touch with friends, but now I have realized that life is much better with friends around.” Are we all learning from Tom’s lesson in life?

We also met a policeman on duty at the corner of the street. “My friends and I love sharing a beer each weekend. Everything in the world can change but not our dates with our beers,” the policeman said. “For me, the importance of friendship lies in enjoying the time we spend together with nothing to worry about.”

Why not keep a diary?

Do you keep a diary? Keeping a diary is good for children’s writing skills according to a recent study by a UK organization.
The UK charity (慈善机构) National Literacy Trust did a study about children’s diary writing. It studied more than 30, 000 children aged between 8 and 16. The study found that if a child keeps a diary, he or she may be a better writer than others of that age. About 27 percent of children who keep a diary are better writers than others of that age. Only 15.5 percent of children who do not keep a diary are better writers than others of that age.

You may ask, “What should I write in a diary?” Jacqueline Wilson gives some advice. Ms. Wilson is a famous children’s writer from the UK. According to her, you can write about people you love, or people you hate. You can also write about your own hopes and dreams. And if you are really interested in sports and watch a lot of matches, why not write about them in your diary?
