The idea of Doctors Without Borders (国界) is that people who need medical help should be able to get it, no matter what is going on in their country.
Christophe Fournier usually works in an office for a large organization. However, Christophe’s job can sometimes be exciting and dangerous. He works for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders. Since 1971, MSF has sent trained doctors all over the world to help people who need help in the war, disease or disaster. Dr. Fournier is a doctor from France who has traveled to many places to organize programs that help people. At the moment, there are over 27,000 trained medical staff in MSF projects. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world, and they should expect difficult conditions. Doctors with experience in tropical (热带的) diseases are useful because most of MSF’s work is in Africa. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, they have to go for at least six months.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life to join MSF? According to Dr. Fournier, the experience you get is a great help in your life. Besides, you need to keep an open mind and learn to get along well with the people you meet. One thing that you can say at the end of any task is that you have influenced people’s lives.

He was always sitting in the park, looking at the big tree and doing nothing (没有什么事情). I often visited him on weekends. I helped him to clean his room and cook. We listened to music, sang old songs, played computer games or walked in the park together. I also bought him a cute pet dog. He walked with the dog after supper every day. And one day he said he was happy to stay with me. Then he decided to do something to make himself busy. He planted some trees and flowers around his house.
Now he often helps his neighbors look after their children. Sometimes he tells the children interesting stories. He is so kind, so all the neighbors love him very much. Old Alex is happy again.

Growing up fishing along the Tennessee River, Cash Daniels, from Tennessee, the United States, has always loved nature. When he learned that 80% of all rubbish from land and rivers ended up in the ocean, he couldn’t sit back and do nothing. At the age of 7, he decided to make a change. “Kids may be a small percent of the population, but we’re 100% of the future,” he said. “And we can save the world.”
Cash’s family gave him great support along the way. Their first step toward change included cleanups (清洁) along the river, something that quickly went from a family event to a community effort with volunteers and neighbors. In doing so, Cash hoped to not only clean up the Tennessee River, but also start a movement (运动) that would encourage others to do the same.
Now 12 years old, Cash has made a positive impact (影响) in his hometown. Besides organizing river cleanups, he has written a children’s book about river pollution and raised enough money to place 17 dustbins along the Tennessee River—and that is just the beginning! “I want to travel around the world, teach others, and help them feel connected to the ocean, because if you are connected to the ocean—if you love it and what lives in it—you’ll want to protect it,” he said. “This is my fun, and it becomes more fun with every new discovery. Every little action counts. Every person can make a positive change if they just stand up and get involved (参与).”

Jack: Reading in the holiday is an interesting thing. Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea is my favorite book. It’s about a captain’s travel under the sea. The story is very interesting and the pictures are fantastic. This book can make you relaxed.
Ben: I like reading the Four Great Classical Novels of China although I’m a foreigner from London. I can’t wait to tell the story The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It taught me a lot about the three kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu. If you are interested in history, don’t miss it.
Rose: In my opinion, The Little Prince is the best one. In this book, a young prince falls to earth from a small planet and experiences a lot. It’s not just a fiction story, but tells us about the correct values.
