In Beijing, there will be more self-driving taxis on the road soon. It means you could get into a taxi with no driver! It might sound like something from a science fiction movie, but it is becoming a reality.

On July 7th, 2023, it was announced that the commercial operation (商业营运) of self-driving taxis was started in Beijing. It is a big step forward in the development of self-driving technology.

Actually, self-driving taxis have undergone months of road tests. Companies such as Baidu have been allowed to run self-driving taxis in a designated (指定的) area in Beijing. A total of 116 self-driving taxis have been tested. More than 1.5million people have used the service, and over 95% of the people love it.

A 35-year-old woman in Beijing said that she and her family tried a self-driving taxi in May and were amazed by the wonderful ride. She booked (预约) the ride on her mobile phone, and the car door opened by itself when it received instructions.

Xu Hongwei, one of the experts, said they would make a plan to watch over the self-driving taxis and make sure they are safe for the passengers.

Every spring, there are sports meets at many middle schools. When students on the playground crowd into a big circle and shout loudly, “One, two, one, two,” do you know what game is on? It is tug of war.
