National Smile Month is the largest and longest-running oral (口腔的) health campaign (运动) in the UK. National Smile Month will be sharing positive messages and encouraging others to develop and have a healthy mouth between May 13 and June 13, 2024.

The British are known for their bad teeth because they have too many sweet foods and drinks. It seems that most of them don’t often show their feelings. They neither smile nor cry. But this is not true. The British like to smile as much as anyone else. They just don’t want to show their bad teeth.

There are three key messages in helping people develop and have a healthy mouth. They are:

■ Brush your teeth at night and at least once a day.

■ Cut down on how much sweet food and drink you have, and how often you have them.

■ Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they ask you to do.

With the help of these three messages, people can realize the importance of good teeth and be confident enough to open their mouths to smile. National Smile Month isn’t just about education and stressing the importance of a healthy mouth. The key to the success of the campaign is that we have lots of fun doing it!

A smile might be a small body language, yet it can make a great difference to our state of mind. You can support National Smile Month in so many ways. 文章大意:本文主要介绍了听大音量音乐对听力是有害的,以及WTO对此的一些具体介绍。

【推荐1】Do you often listen to music at loud volumes(音量)? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing, according to the World Health Organization(WHO).

Over 1 billion young people are at risk of hearing loss because of listening to loud noise for long periods of time, said WHO. Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.

The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 decibels (dB,分贝)for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB.

Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear(内耳). Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells(听毛细胞)in our inner ears. These cells test sounds. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss.

Some people might think that their music isn’t all that loud. But this can depend on where you are. For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, you might feel uncomfortable. WНO said the “safe level” for most sound is below 80 decibels for up to 40 hours a week. A level of 80 decibels is almost the same to the noise of a subway.

2. What is the sound level of a busy road?
A.15 dB.B.85 dB.C.100 dB.D.115 dB.

B.Because it puts our brains under great pressure.
C.Because it causes hair cells in the inner ear to die.
D.Because people will get used to listening to loud sounds.
4. What does the fifth paragraph tell us?
A.People love to listen to loud music.
B.People listen to music on the subway.
