1     You are going to watch a movie in the US. What do you eat? A hot dog? Maybe. Popcorn (爆米花)? Yes, of course. Americans love to eat popcorn when they watch films, both at the cinema and at home. Many people like to eat popcorn as a snack (零食). There are kinds of something low-fat stopping people getting fat.

    2     A Pakistani (巴基斯坦的) kid has his breakfast sitting on the street. He has to work hard to make money to eat. There are about 300 million hungry kids in the world like him. There is a kid dying of hunger somewhere in the world every 5 seconds.

    3     This Indian boy is 5-year-old Saurabh Nagvanshi. His father was a policeman but died not long ago. So he takes his father’s job and serves tea (沏茶) to the police. He works every other day and gets $57 a month for his family of five.

    4     Water is all around us. All the creatures must have water to live with. The plants must have it. The animals must have it. We must have it, too. We cannot live without water.

    5     Most people around the world nod their heads up and down to mean “yes” or “I agree with you” and side to side to mean “no”. These are almost universal (普遍的) signs. Maybe people first communicated with these signs thousands of years ago.

On Women’s Day, in China, all the women will have a half-day off. They can have a rest and do anything they are interested in, such as shopping, eating out, taking a trip and so on. As for the men, they not only work for a whole day, but also come up with some ideas to make their women happy. For example, buying them gifts they are longing for, taking them somewhere they are looking forward to and so on. So the women want to have more holidays like Women’s Day. As a result, many female college students created a new festival called Girls’ Day, which is celebrated on March 7 every year. In China, “women”is related to the married women. Since the female students haven’t got married and they do not like to give up the opportunity to be “queens”, they created Girls’ Day. On Girl’s Day, universities hold many activities for their female students, such as a make-up competition, a hand-make competition, a dancing competition and so on.

【推荐3】Carnival (狂欢节) is the most famous holiday in Brazil. It is not about an important time in history or about a famous person, but it is important for the people because it’s a time of friendship, freedom, and almost a whole week without work. People can have parties or have a rest, and most people choose parties, day after day, night after night.

It starts forty days before Easter (复活节). It lasts four days and four nights. It starts on Saturday and finishes on Wednesday. People wear their colourful clothes and go out into the streets or to the clubs. There are also groups of people who make a parade (游行) showing their music and cars. Every year the parade tells a different story. Each city has at least one group like this.

In the south, life returns to normal by Wednesday. However, it is not accepted by the church in the northwest, where Carnival is more common. There people don’t respect its end and continue to have parties until the next Sunday.

I like Carnival, but I don’t agree that the party should keep going on for so many days. Unfortunately, some people aren’t responsible and give it a bad name, and that makes people remember the bad things about this. However, it is the only national holiday that brings together the whole country and its different people and cultures.
