【推荐1】In Cixi, Zhejiang Province, every family was enjoying the May Day holiday. A middle-aged man put down his chopsticks and went out with a tool bag, leaving his wife at home. He is Qian Haijun who won the title of “Model of the Times (时代楷模)” on May 6th 2022.

Qian Haijun is a worker who deals with electric problems. In the past 23 years, he has spent all his spare time in helping a number of families with electricity. Qian Haijun has made 500 cards with his name and telephone number and handed them out so that people would know who to call when a problem comes. He answers every call at any time and values them very much. He also pays much attention to the group of elderly people over 60 who live on their own. He realizes that the elderly need companionship (陪伴) more than anything else. Over the past few years, he has become the “good son” of more than 100 elderly people.

His stories were made into a mini movie, and even the Ningbo and Cixi Volunteer Service Centers are named after him. Under his leadership, more than 1,200 volunteers have joined the project for the disabled (残疾的). And they have provided help more than 30,000 times.

“I am a common people. I will never think about stopping offering help to people in need, and I will try my best to bring beauty to the world,” he said.

There was an old man in our neighborhood. He looked quiet because he never talked to anyone.Every morning, he ran around the neighborhood. When he ran, he picked up rubbish.

One day, we heard that the old man had a car accident when he picked up the rubbish. He would have to spend some time in the hospital. We also learned that he could not speak English very well and that was why he didn’t talk to anyone.

One of our teachers wanted to do something. She told the old man’s story to a newspaper. A reporter visited the old man and wrote about him. His name was Mr. Polanski. In the country where Mr. Polanski was from, there was almost no rubbish on the street. So when he first saw rubbish in our neighborhood, he felt bad. He wanted to help clean up the neighborhood, and then he could be happy in this new country.

Later our school decided that we could have a run on December 12 to pick up rubbish, just as Mr. Polanski did. We called it the “Polanski Run”. That day, Mr. Polanski ran in front, and hundreds of students followed. We ran around the neighborhood in groups, picking up rubbish and putting it in bags.
