【推荐2】I am Peter. I went to a village last weekend with my friends.

My trip started early in the morning at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. After three hours on the train to Ningbo and two hours on the bus, I arrived at the village.

I stayed with my host family(寄宿家庭) for two days, and they were friendly to me. They told me that I could call them Mary and Tom.

They had a daughter called Eva. She played with me and told me how to grow vegetables. I also went with Tom to a forest. In the evening, we had a big dinner together.

The next day I woke up with the song of birds, something I never heard in Shanghai. After breakfast, we went to work on the farm all day. I learned much about farm work. It was hard but very meaningful(有意义的). Then we went to the lake to go fishing. It was interesting. I came back to Shanghai in the evening.

The trip was only two days, but it made me relax from the busy life. And it was a great time together with my host family.

It is said that every year on the second day of the second lunar (阴历的) month, the dragon wakes up from its winter sleep and raises its head. Because of this, the day is called “Dragon Head-raising Day” (Longtaitou) . This year, it falls on March 4.

After Longtaitou, there would be more rain. And rain is very important to farming. So old people believed that Longtaitou was the start of spring and farming.

People have many ways to celebrate the Longtaitou festival. The most popular one is to have a haircut. Many believe that a haircut during the first lunar month may bring bad luck to your uncles—mainly your mothefs brothers. They hope getting a haircut on Longtaitou can bring good luck.

Among Chinese people’s festival traditions, there is always a place for food. During the Longtaitou festival, people eat food named after dragons. Noodles are called dragon’s beard (longxu) . Dumplings are dragon’s ears (longer) . And spring rolls are dragon’s scales (鳞片) (longlin) .

People also hold activities like dragon dancing on the day. In some places in Shandong province, people make dragon lanterns (灯笼) too. Small reed (芦苇) boats go down the rivers and carry the lanterns, which stand for people’s best wishes and good luck.
