文章大意:本文介绍了中国科学家研发出能够清除水环境中微塑料颗粒的机器鱼。

【推荐1】Chinese scientists say they have developed robotic fish that can remove (去除) microplastic particles (微塑料颗粒) from water environments.

Researchers working on the project say the robots could help to clean up plastic pollution in oceans around the world. The robot swimmers are about 1.3 cm long. They are made of a soft chemical material. The robots are built to remove microplastic particles which are smaller than 5 mm while moving through the water. Studies have found that microplastic pollution has been discovered in many natural environments. The material comes from the breakdown (分解) of plastic products and industrial waste.

The project was started by a team at Sichuan University in southwestern China. The researchers say the robots have already worked well in sallow (浅的) waters and they plan to carry out more tests in deeper waters. The team says the robots can be controlled by light. They can swim up to 2.76 body lengths per second. This is faster than most similar soft robots.

Wang Yuyan is a member of the research team. According to her, the small, lightweight robot is now being used to collect microplastics for research purposes. She also says that the team plans to increase that use, so the robot fish can remove plenty of microplastic waste from deep ocean areas.

According to the team, the fish can take in different kinds of microplastics and even repair itself when damaged. And if a robot fish is accidentally eaten by a real fish, it could safely digest (消化) the material.

Wang says similar robots could be developed to be placed inside the human body to remove unwanted materials or diseases.

1. What can we learn about the robotic fish?
A.They are 5 mm long.
B.They are made of soft plastic materials.
C.They have been widely used around the world.
D.They could help to clean up plastic pollution.
2. What’s the difference between the robotic fish and most similar soft robots?
A.The robotic fish can be controlled by light.
B.The robotic fish can work well in shallow waters.
C.The robotic fish have been tested in deep waters.
D.The robotic fish can swim faster.
3. If a real fish eats a robotic fish, it would ______ .
A.get no harm at allB.repair itself quickly
C.keep the robot foreverD.grow well in deeper waters
4. Which statement is NOT true according to the passage?
A.The robotic fish uses light to collect microplastics.
B.The project was started by a team at Sichuan University.
C.The robotic fish is bigger than the microplastic particles.
D.Similar robots could be developed to be placed inside the human body.

【推荐2】       Have you ever wanted to have a robot to help you out around the house? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a helper who would take care of the dishes, do your laundry, keep the house clean, and maybe even go to the store to do your shopping for you? Some robots can take care of some of these things already, but robots that use artificial intelligence are the ones that a lot of people are holding out for. Not only will these robots be able to take care of chores, but they will be able to learn as well.
There are some types of robots that already use a form of artificial intelligence called “swarm intelligence”. As an example of how this works, scientists have created underwater robots that will be used to repair coral reefs that have been damaged. What these robots do is work together to rebuild damaged reefs. As they communicate, each one knows what has been done in one area of a reef and can help build other areas or build onto something that another robot has done. Working together, the robots create a new reef that can then be left to grow and thrive on its own.
Amazon, the major electronic commerce company, has recently come out with an ingenious idea. Instead of having a package delivered to a customer via delivery truck, Amazon will send out flying drones(无人驾驶飞机)that will bring a package to a person’s house for delivery almost immediately. Just think about how amazing it would be when you order a small item from Amazon, choose immediate delivery, and within an hour a drone lands in your front yard and leaves your package for you. These types of robots could turn out to be a dream come true for customers who like to get their orders superfast!
