Using fewer plastic bags, throwing rubbish in the right place and saving water...These are some common ways to protect the environment. But scientists around the world are trying some new and cool ways.

In Iceland you can find a kind of factory. It catches Carbon dioxide(二氧化碳，CO₂) from the air. Then, it turns CO₂ into stones deep under the ground. It catches up to 4,000 tons of CO₂ every year. This is the same as the gas from about 790 cars in a year.

Cows usually pee and poop(大小便) everywhere. Their waste pollutes soil and water. It is better if cows can pee and poop in one place. This will be easier for people to do with their waste. Scientists are teaching some cows to do so. When the cows pee and poop in the right place, they get a snack. When they don’t do so, people squirt(喷) them with water.

Meat is tasty, but farm animals make a lot of CO_2. Some Schools in Germany have meat-free menus for students. These Menus have a lot of vegetables and a little fish.

Driving is one cause of pollution. If you want to use your car, ask you a question, “Do I really need my car?” Walk or use your bike if the trip is a short one. So in my opinion, walking or riding a bike is a good way to protect the environment.

I think water is the most valuable thing. If we don’t save water, it could run out. So I often shorten my shower time and turn off the running water after washing my hands. And I ask my daughter Lisa and my son John to do so.
