The contest lasted for two months and attracted a lot of old people. Among them, the oldest is a 79-year-old retired (退休的) lady. She had learned web page designing for 4 months before attending the contest. She finally got an honorary ( 荣誉的) title of “The Most Senior Participant(参与者)”. About 30 other old people got different prizes such as “The Best Creative Work” and “The Best Fine Arts Work”. Their works’ themes included science, technology, Olympics, personal life and so on.
The organizers of the contest hoped to encourage more and more elderly people to learn more about the Internet world. And many of the participants felt they really got a lot from the contest. “Designing web page enriches my life and makes me feel much closer to the young people,” one participant said.
The designing of web page is not an easy job. But that doesn’t mean it is the patent(专利) of young people. In fact, as the saying goes: “It’s never too old to learn.” As for the teenagers, perhaps they should know“It’s never late to learn”, whether it is English, piano or others.
1. What was the contest about?
2. How many people took part in it?
3. How old is the oldest participant?
4. Is the designing of web page the patent of young people?
5. What can we learn from the passage?

We all know that lying is wrong. But do you know that it is bad for both your physical (身体的) and mental(心理的) health? A recent study shows that telling fewer lies(撒谎) helps people physically and mentally.
"Each week for ten weeks, 110 people aged from 18 to 71 were tested to see the relationship(关系) between the number of lies they told and their health," said Anita Kelly, a professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. "When they lied more, their health went bad," said Kelly.
Researchers divided the people into two groups. Group A was told to try not to tell any lies for any reason to anyone. They may omit(忽略) the truth, refuse to answer questions, and keep secrets, but they couldn't say anything that they knew was not true. Group B was not told anything like this.
Over the study period, the relationship between less lying and improved health was much stronger in Group A. When people in Group A told fewer lies in a week than they did in other weeks, they experienced fewer health problems such as sore throats and headaches. Professor Linda Stroh said, "When you find that you don't lie, you have less stress(压力)."
The results of past research show that each American tells about 11 lies a week. In both groups, when people lied less during a week, they reported better physical and mental health during that period.
"It's certainly a good thing to have people be more honest (诚实的)," said Robert Feldman of the University of Masachusetts, Amherst.
