If someone says to you: “give me five”, do not search your pocket to get five yuan! It will make others laugh! The person’s not asking for your money, but your fingers.
In the US, “give me five” or “give me the high five” is a popular gesture (动作). You can see it often in films or on TV. It means the clapping (拍) of each other’s raised (举起的) right hands together.
People do it when they meet for the first time or something success happens. For example, a student has good marks in exams or wins a lottery ticket (彩票). If a football team wins a game, the players will give high fives to everyone around to celebrate.
This gesture may come from the old Roman gesture of raising the right arm for the emperor (皇帝). This showed that the person raising his arm did not have a sword (刀) in his hand.

For example, in the USA, a person points to his or her head when he thinks someone is clever. However, human beings are not the only ones who use body language. Animals also use body language to tell each other how they feel and what they think. When a dog is happy, its ears will stand up, and its eyes will be widely open. When it is angry, it will look straight at you. If an elephant spreads its ears, it means “Watch out”. To show friendship, elephants will touch each other with their trunks (象鼻). Dolphins (海豚) live in groups and like to show each other their feelings. An angry dolphin will sometimes slap (拍打) its tail on the water. A happy dolphin will play with its friends, making small jumps into the water.

If you want to show romantic interest, you should look at someone gently and keep your glance on him. If you’re not interested in someone, you can avert(转移) your glance. You may look around and show boredom. Be aware that looking around may also express tiredness. Your eyes may close and you may just sit back and roll your head back. There are so many signals you can give out with your eyes.
Eyes do tell all your feelings, and people really do read eyes. It is very subconscious(潜意识的). We do it all the time. The most obvious nonverbal(非语言的) way of communicating and understanding someone is watching their eyes. If you don’t care, then just go ahead and look away. Have your eyes squinted(眯着眼睛) as you’re judging someone. Whatever you want to express, you should know that it’s going to come through your eyes, and people really do pick that up. So, keep it in mind that eyes do tell all your feelings.

Invented by software engineer Josh Wardle, the game has been popular with millions of players across the world. Every midnight, Wordle refreshes its word of the day. For example, the answer for March 3 is ALOUD.
As you guess, the game gives you hints (提示). For example, if a letter is correct and in the right place, it turns green. If the letter is not in the word, it turns gray. If the letter is part of the word but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. These hints make the game into a puzzle (谜).
You need knowledge to win this game, not just luck. Every syllable (音节) in an English word includes at least one vowel (元音), so finding vowels is a useful method. For example, in the word “think”, there is only one syllable and there is one vowel “i”.
Several days ago, I played this game and found it very interesting. First, I guessed the word “table”. Only “a” was green. Then, I guessed “maker” and the “r” turned yellow. In the end, I guessed “carry” and I was correct!
Wordle is not only a perfect game to have fun, but also an excellent tool to increase your English vocabulary. Why not have a try in your spare time?
