Teenagers need to eat nutritious (有营养的) food while they’ re still young so that they will grow up to be healthy adults. Therefore, it is necessary for school cafeterias (食堂) to provide healthy food. With this in mind, the government has introduced a new food safety regulation (规定) that will improve nutrition and health standards in schools.

The regulation took effect on April 1. It requires those who are in charge of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to eat with students in their cafeterias. Schools will also be required to make information regarding food sources and suppliers (供应商) public.

The regulation also suggests that parents should eat with students at school in order to provide advice on food safety and nutrition. Schools must find out food safety problems and solve them in a timely manner.

If a school is caught buying low-quality food or failing to report food safety incidents (事件), the people in charge of the school will be warned, fired or handed over to law enforcement (执法机关), the regulation says.

Parents across China have become increasingly angry about food safety incidents in schools, according to The Beijing News.

The most recent example occurred in March at the Chengdu No 7 High Development School. Parents posted videos and photos of moldy (发霉的) food that was served in the school’s cafeteria, China Daily reported. The school’s principal was eventually fired.

【推荐1】College students often hear about the “freshman fifteen”. What does it mean? You may wonder.

It means the fifteen pounds, or about seven kilograms students might gain (获得) in their first year of college.

Many young men and women put on extra weight when they start college. Some schools have studied it. Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has found that freshmen gain an average of four pounds during their first twelve weeks. That is almost two kilograms. If weight gain continues at this rate (比率), how long will they put on fifteen pounds? The answer is forty-five weeks, or almost a year.

And why do so many freshmen gain weight? The answers listed by experts are not so surprising. The freshmen gain weight because it’s the first time for college kids to enjoy complete control over their own lives. They may choose to eat and drink whatever they want, whenever they want. For example, college students often eat foods high in fat. After all, there are no parents around to say no to junk food. Students may also miss meals. They could be in class or studying or just … busy. Also, freshmen often use food to relax their mind, they will overeat when they have food as they have college pressures to deal with.

This may be short-lived (短暂的), but the weight gain should not be overlooked (忽视). Remember: It requires more effort to lose those pounds than to simply not gain them in the beginning. Or even worse, they may carry the extra weight around for years.

1. What does the “freshman fifteen” mean?
A.The first fifteen days at college.
B.The freedom first-year college students enjoy.
C.The fifteen pounds first-year college students gain.
D.The fifteen pounds first-year college students lose.
2. Some freshmen often overeat to ________.
A.give themselves more energyB.gain extra weight
C.taste junk foodD.take pressures off their mind
3. How many reasons are given in Paragraph 4 for students’ weight gain?
A.One.B.Two.C.Four.D.Five.
4. What does the pronoun “This” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Weight.B.Freshman fifteen.C.Pressure.D.Eating.
5. We can infer from the last paragraph that ________.
A.“freshman fifteen” may have long-term effect on college students
B.weight gain is nothing serious for freshmen
C.“freshman fifteen” is not a common problem
D.“freshman fifteen” is a problem hard to prevent

Do you have lunch at school? Do you like having lunch at school? “School dinners”(that means “lunch”)is a hot topic in the UK these days.     1    . Some people think that school meals are unhealthy, some people say that they are much better than those in the past and others say that midday meals should be free for all school children.

A typical school dinner costs about two pounds (about 17 yuan) a day for a secondary pupil in the UK. Parents usually need to pay for the typical school dinner in advance online. There is usually a main course, a dessert and a drink. And dinners must include food groups such as fruit and vegetables, protein and carbohydrate(碳水化合物).     2     For example, there are limits(限制) on number of fried food. Children are only allowed to eat small amounts of fatty or sweet food. Besides, three different kinds of fruits and vegetables must be served each week. More recently, online systems like “Parent Pay” give parents more control over what their children are eating at school.     3

Martha Payne, from Scotland, started a blog called Neverseconds about her school dinners when she was just nine years old. She posted photographs of her lunch every day and gave the food a grade out of ten.     4     Many people read her blog and young people from all     over the world posted pictures of their school meals on Neverseconds.

Now, more than a third of British school pupils have school dinner. Some take a packed lunch, prepared at home. Others either have lunch at home or eat at nearby take-away restaurants.

There are also many plans to examine school dinners in the UK and look at ways to make them better. Henry Dimbleby and John Vincent started Leon, a chain of restaurants which sell healthy fast food. The British government has asked the two restaurant owners to collect information about school dinners and see how they can be improved.     5

A.The grade depended on the quality of the food and how healthy it was.
B.But now fewer and fewer British school pupils have lunch at school.
C.Kids’ parents can set daily spending limits and see exactly what they buy.
D.There are different opinions about what young people eat at lunchtime.
E.In the past, school dinner led lots of problems because of breakfast costs.
F.Maybe complaints about school dinners will soon be a thing of the past.
G.There are many rules about how the food of school dinner is prepared.
