What does it take to graduate from university? A couple of classes, some papers or high scores? Well, all these are not enough if you’re a student at Tsinghua University.
According to a new rule of the university, students must prove themselves in the pool. They need to complete a swimming test of at least 50 metres, and those who fail the test will be required to take a swimming course throughout their school years. By the time they graduate, they will have known how to swim; otherwise they can’t graduate with their bachelor’ s degrees (学士学位).
This news made waves in Chinese social media. Some people praised the university for requiring a necessary skill that can save lives, and they also believed that the move would help improve students’ overall physical fitness. However, others questioned if it was fair to expect those who come from inland cities to be able to swim.
In fact. this is not a new rule. Tsinghua University first made swimming a requirement in 1919. It was later dropped because the number of students became too many and there weren’t enough swimming pools on the campus for them to learn swimming.
Anyway, it’s still good news that Chinese students’ health and fitness have become more and more valued. Why not just take this chance to equip (装备) yourself with one more life-saving ability?
31. According to the new rule of Tsinghua University, what skill should students have before they can graduate with their bachelor’s degrees?A.Playing the piano | B.Swimming. |

B.it’s good for students’ health |
C.it would improve students’ overall physical fitness |

Teenagers need to eat nutritious (有营养的) food while they’ re still young so that they will grow up to be healthy adults. Therefore, it is necessary for school cafeterias (食堂) to provide healthy food. With this in mind, the government has introduced a new food safety regulation (规定) that will improve nutrition and health standards in schools.
The regulation took effect on April 1. It requires those who are in charge of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to eat with students in their cafeterias. Schools will also be required to make information regarding food sources and suppliers (供应商) public.
The regulation also suggests that parents should eat with students at school in order to provide advice on food safety and nutrition. Schools must find out food safety problems and solve them in a timely manner.
If a school is caught buying low-quality food or failing to report food safety incidents (事件), the people in charge of the school will be warned, fired or handed over to law enforcement (执法机关), the regulation says.
Parents across China have become increasingly angry about food safety incidents in schools, according to The Beijing News.
The most recent example occurred in March at the Chengdu No 7 High Development School. Parents posted videos and photos of moldy (发霉的) food that was served in the school’s cafeteria, China Daily reported. The school’s principal was eventually fired.
In October, the head of an international school in Shanghai was fired after health and education authorities found moldy tomatoes and onions in the schools kitchen.

Confucius once said, “At 30, I took my stand. ” By this, he meant that a man should achieve something great when he turns30. Chinese actor Zhu Yilong is rising to fame (声名鹊起) at this very age.
Zhu has become famous because of popular online shows like Guardian (《镇魂》) and The Story of Ming Lan. His new show Skynet Action (《天网行动》) came out on march 12. He plays a traffic officer on this show.
Zhu waited for 10 years to reach this level of fame. He is a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy. Since his first role in 2009, he has played nearly 40 roles. But most of them are not well-known.
This might be because of his personality. He is shy and quiet. He doesn’t say much during most of his interviews.
But this doesn’t bother Zhu. He said he would rather let his performances speak for him. Last year, he played three different roles on Guardian, including a college professor (教授), the professor’s brother and a peacekeeper. He had to come up with different ways to make the roles seem different from each other. He wore glasses while playing the professor, for example. He tried to use different facial expressions to show the roles’ different personalities.
“I never doubted myself. I just took roles one by one to get more experience,” he told Guangzhou Daily.

A boy named Reggie was well-known in his hometown because he couldn’t hear anything. He was born deaf. Although people liked him a lot, they also treated him much more differently than other people. The other children worried that they might hurt him while playing together. Adults acted like he was unable to understand them, as if he was a baby.
However, this year, people got to understand Reggie a little better. On Reggie’s birthday, everyone in town would wear earplugs (耳塞) so that they couldn’t hear anything either. This day came to be known as the Day of Silence. People became aware of how difficult life could be when you can’t hear anything. They also learned that Reggie had many skills.
On that day, no one thought of Reggie as just a deaf person People saw a whole new side of him. They paid more attention to the things he said. They were also surprised by his smartness, creativity, and his ability to find a solution to nearly any problem that he faced. They realized that he had always been like that, and that he simply needed to communicate with others in a different way. In the end, he was really just like any other little boy.

八、任务型阅读 添加题型下试题
If we agree that education is used to prepare us for life, then there is very little time to waste. So, while we can, we should teach children something really useful. Here is what our school should teach.
politeness is a mark of civilization (文明). The sooner children learn this, the better. In any case, a lot can be achieved by a smile and good manners. Like it or not, our adults work hard for money, but we don’t make an effort to teach children how to manage it. So our schools have a duty to teach them this ability from the beginning.
We’re likely to accept something we are told, but that’s not what educated people do. Educated people are reasonable and they look at facts. If our schools teach nothing else, they should at least teach critical (批判性的) thinking.
Children should learn to take care of their health. They should know that if they eat junk food, they will become fat and unhealthy. They should be very clear about what happens to their bodies when they drink or smoke.
All of us are part of society. We have rights and duties. We should understand what they are. We have to know a little bit of history and geography, because we need to have an environment in which to communicate with the people around us.
In a word, our schools should spend every moment they have telling this to our children: “This is life, this is what you are going to face, and this is how you deal with it.”
