文章大意:本文讨论了四位学生对待学校作业的态度。
1 . A.回答问题(本题共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)

When you do your schoolwork, do you do the easier work first or the harder work? Do you put off the things that you don’t like to do? Here are four students’ answers.

Ann, 15, from UK

As for me, I’m a procrastinator (有拖延症的人). In school, I was supposed to spend 40 minutes on my test. I didn’t write a word until the last twenty minutes. Of course I failed the test and my teacher was disappointed at me.

John, 15, from Australia

I don’t like putting off my work. If I don’t finish the work that should be done, I might feel guilty. So I arrange (安排) my time properly. Therefore, I seldom worry about whether I can finish the work on time or not.

William, 14, from the USA

I’m also a procrastinator. In my mind, the thought of instant gratification (即时满足) makes me put off doing what I am asked to do. I always put off the things that I don’t like to do. When I realize that is wrong, it is a little late for me to finish the task in time. As a result, I don’t do as well as I can.

Li Hua, 14, from China

In my mind, time and tide wait for no man (岁月不饶人). I never want to be procrastinator. So I make full use of the time by making a proper timetable to finish what I should do. As a result, I never feel nervous about I can’t finish my homework or test paper. After finishing my home work, I have free time to do sports or hang out with my friends.

A blind box keeps what’s inside a secret. Usually, there are toys in blind boxes, but now stores are putting food in them. They are “leftovcr (剩菜) blind boxes”. Many people in China have fallen in love with it. In each box is the food nearly out of the best-before date.

“We pack products such as milk, bread, cake, and sandwiches in blind boxes, and sell these boxes at half price. We usually start to sell blind boxes at 7 pm every day,” Wu Tian who owns a convenience store in Beijing said. Some WeChat’s mini programs also help sell the food. People often check and buy leftover blind boxes on them. It’s reported that one-third of the world’s food is wasted every year, reaching around 1.3 billion tons in 2023. A person may waste about 93 grams of food each meal. The leftover blind boxes may help with this.

According to a mini program online, more than 27,000 pieces of bread were sold within a month, or else the food would be thrown away.

“Leftover blind boxes, as a new way of business, have a bright future. More and more people like the leftover blind boxes because they help reduce food waste and save money,”

said Hong Yong, an expert on business. “Therefore, they are popular with customers.” Although the idea of leftover blind boxes is creative, more rules need to be set to make it more successful.

Heads up! Sport injuries (损伤) are a safety problem for athletes. Now, the World Medical Association (WMA) has made a new set of rules to protect players from serious head injuries.

“Often the athletes with head injuries want to return to the sport as soon as possible because they fear missing the chance for success, but actually the injuries remain and they will easily cause more harm to the brain. By providing the proper rules, we can prevent the wounded athletes from going back to the sport too soon and taking the risk of getting brain problems.” said Dr. Raymond, a WMA member.

The rules recommend that the wounded athletes should be taken off the field and sent to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Time can make a big difference in how soon they can recover (痊愈). They can only return to their sport when the doctors allow them to. The rules also suggest that the health care doctors should treat these athletes differently according to the ages.

The WMA says that between 1.6 million and 3.8 million brain injuries caused by sport happen every year. A study also shows that as many as 40% of high school athletes return to playing before they should. The WMA’s new rules may help reduce these numbers.

Dreams may make you smart. This was discovered by scientists who do research on dreams.

What is a dream exactly? Scientists explain that during sleep time your brain reviews your experiences in the day. It tries to connect your new experiences with the old memories (记忆). As your brain connects things, it turns them into a story, and then you get a dream.

Dreams may help you deal with worries and fears. What has happened during the day may be painful. While you are sleeping, however, the brain will replay the painful memories in a safe dream space. There the bad memories become less painful. And you will feel better after waking up.

Dreams also seem to be able to help you learn. This idea is supported by a study. So scientists advise you not to stay up all night studying, especially when an exam is coming. They say a sweet dream might help you get higher marks.

Dreams may make you more creative, too. It was reported that a famous songwriter came up with his best song in a dream, and wrote it down as soon as he woke up. However, dreams alone can’t bring about creativity. In fact, the songwriter spent a lot of time thinking about the song before the dream. In a word, hard work matters more for creativity, though dreams also have a role to play.
