Ten-year-old Orion Jean has always known that kindness is important. He often p    1     it by volunteering with his family. But last year, after entering the National Kindness Speech Contest, he became crazy about it. Now he works to s    2     kindness everywhere through projects that help others. He c    3     his campaign（运动） the Race to Kindness.

Spreading Hugs   

After a teacher told him about the contest, Orion had only 24 hours to w    4    , memorize（熟记）, and record his speech. In it, he talked about the importance of kindness—especially right now, when many are facing d    5     from the pandemic（疫情） and dealing with injustice.

“Kindness is like spreading hugs around the world to those who need it and those who may not know they need it.” Orion said. He e    6     listeners to join him in “the race of kindness” by doing small, kind acts for others.

Orion’s speech won the contest. He used his $500 prize to fund（资助） his first Race to Kindness project, a toy drive for a local children’s hospital. He collected 619 toys. After that, Orion wanted to make an even b    7     influence. Working with a nonprofit（非盈利）organization, he packed meal bags for people in need. He included a kind message for each recipient（接受者）. Orion also o    8     several events in his community. In all, he collected more than 100,000 m    9     !

Everybody Wins

Orion believes that everyone wins this race. He says, “If you’re kind to someone else, it can make their day b    10     and inspire（激励） that person to be kind to somebody else. And then it just grows and grows, and it can make the world a better place.”

4 . A report(报道) on 3,375 students aged between 10     1     18 says that about 38 percent of them use the Internet often. Most of them get useful information and use the Internet to help their studies. But some are not using it in good ways. Many are     2    on-line games too much. A few even visit websites(网 站) that they should not look     3    . After that, their learning gets worse and worse.

In order to help students use the Internet in a good way, a textbook is used in some schools this term. It gives many useful ideas. For example , it's good to read news and do exercise at least   twice     4     week.

Teachers and parents all think the book is educational. It can teach students     5     to be a good person on the Internet.

5 . Da Mao and Er Shun are two pandas that have lived in Canada since 2014. They were going to stay there until 2023. However, they will be taken to China     1     （early） than planned.

They are now living in the Calgary Zoo in Canada.     2     May 12, the zoo said that it was going to send the two pandas back to China. This is because the zoo can't get enough bamboo for     3    （they）, Global News reported.

Because of COVID﹣19 travel restrictions （限制）, it has become more challenging for the zoo to get bamboo. According to the zoo,     4       adult panda eats around 40kg of bamboo a day.

"Au pair," originally a French term, refers to a foreigner who lives with a family so he/she can learn the family's language and culture,while at the same time he/she takes care of the family's children and/or cleans the house in return for food,accommodations and a small s    1    .In recent years, many young Chinese have become au pairs in other countries,and many young foreigners have moved to China to work as au pairs．

The magazine ,Women of China recently interviewed three young Chinese, and three foreigners in China, each of whom shared his/her respective experiences as an au pairs.The following is from an au pair called Natalia Martinez Perez, Republic of Colombia.

I saw the beautiful scenery of China and I learned about Chinese culture from m    3    and dramas that I watched.I have always been keen to travel to China since I fell in love with China and its culture.I respect the Chinese culture, and I want to know more about it．

I was an au pair in some other countries before I moved to China in October 2015.When I heard about the opportunity to go to China, via Outuo（OT）International, a Shanghai-based au pair agency, in 2015, I immediately applied.

Now, I live with my host family in Shanghai.The family has a daughter.I have d    4    a good relationship with the girl, her parents and their relatives.The girl says she really likes me.She asks me to tell her a story before she goes to sleep each night.

I teach the girl English after she finishes her homework.I teach her in various interesting ways, and she has developed a great interest in learning English.I cook Colombian food for the girl sometimes, and we also like to go shopping together.
