1 . More and more people are using mobile phones now. Smartphones are used as televisions, cameras and music players. They are also used for sending e—mails or surfing the Internet. If someone talks about mobile phones, many Chinese will think of Huawei.

In China, even in the world, Huawei is a wonder. Ren Zhengfei set up Huawei Company in 1987. After more than 30 years of development, the company has become the world’s second largest maker of smartphones behind Korea’s Samsung. It has also become the world’s largest supplier(供应商)of 5G.

But recently, Huawei faced some difficulties. The U.S. government ordered a ban(禁令)on its sales in America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the U.S. government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei, which was believed that Huawei’s business would be hurt.

“We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information.” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and president said. “The ban from the U. S. would have little effect on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems.” Ren added.

In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only £400 at the beginning but now it has become a $100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic(浪漫的) as you imagine.”

Facing the ban of the U.S., Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared to a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. It may beat Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in the near future.

2 . Whether from news, reports or social media articles, you may know that 5G is coming.

5G is the 5th generation network. It is a new network after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G and it can connect everyone and everything together. 5G means super-fast data (数据) speed. One can download a two-hour movie in fewer than 10 seconds, and it is making our lives more and more convenient.

5G will make self-driving cars possible. For safety, self-driving cars need super-fast data transmission (传输) to communicate with their nearby environment. 5G is just what makes self-driving cars achieve this. Even airplanes will become “smart” in the near future.

5G will be a big help for students who take online classes. Students all over the world will be able to see places like the Great Wall without leaving their rooms.

It will be also easier for doctors to treat patients remotely by 5G. It means caring for patients from far away.

The facts listed above are only part of what 5G will make possible and popular. Just as in the early days of the Internet in the 1990s, few could see how it could change the world. The same will surely be true of 5G. With 5G, many things do not seem like dreams to anyone. Now let’s get ready to say goodbye to 4G and welcome the coming of 5G.

1. How long may it take to download a two-hour movie with 5G?
A.15 seconds.B.8 seconds.C.10 minutes.D.2 hours.
2. From the last paragraph, we can know that ________.
A.4G is no more used in our daily life nowB.the writer is worried about the coming of 5G
C.with 5G, some of our dreams will come true for sure one dayD.in the 1990s, all the people believed that the Internet would change our life
3. 5G will make the following things more and more popular EXCEPT ________.

4 . If you look at the top of your phone, you’ll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The “G” stands for the “generation” of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G nteworks fully arrive.

On March 30th, 2019, the first 5G video was made on a Huawei Mate X smart phone, CGTN reported. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.

5G will be about 100 times faster than 4G networks. But 5G won’t just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today’s self-driving test cars have one problem—lag(延迟). When the car “sees” an object, it sends this information to a data (数据) center and receives instructions.

However, it takes time to send and receive this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might hit something because they don’t receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer, according to CNN.

5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things(IOT,物联网). This refers to a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speed will be the most important to develop this technology.

These days, both augmented reality (AR)* and virtual reality(VR)* are still something new and they are just toys because of their high cost and data usage. However, not too long from now, 5G will make them much more common both at work and in our homes. You might see people wearing AR glasses or VR headsets* while waiting for the bus or sitting in the office.

One of the most expected changes will be VR and AR’s influence on the gaming industry. Nowadays, most VR games are limited when compared to the latest console games*. With the power of 5G, VR gamers will be able to see, hear, and feel virtual environments without waiting. What’s more, if you want to play a game using a VR headset, you need a machine such as a PC or a gaming console that has a large amount of storage. This means you usually have to stay in one place while playing VR games. The arrival of 5G means we will be able to move advantages and disadvantages away from the PC and into the cloud so that we only need a headset. You will be able to play VR games anywhere in real time with a headset.

Such headsets and other 5G wearables will also bring great changes to the workplace. In 5G smart factories, for example, all of the equipment is connected to a single network. Workers can use 5G headsets when solving problems. Using AR headsets, they can be informed about a problem and shown how to fix it through a heads-up display.

AR adds digital elements* to real-world environments through a smartphone or a pair of smart glasses. One example is Nintendo’s AR Pokemon Go game, which uses a phone’s GPS to show Poké mon as if they are actually in the real world. VR is total immersion* in a 3D computer-generated environment. Users can interact with the environment using VR headsets and gloves. VR is typically used for computer games or in exhibitions.

Life has gone mostly online for many people around the world. With more people going online during the pandemic, global (全球的) internet traffic has become a big problem. Between January and late March, a quarter of major cities experienced (经历) an i    1     in internet traffic.

Video meetings, online c    2     and stay-at-home entertainment have become a lifeline to the outside world. This increase in traffic is testing the internet’s strength. In March, major phone networks in the UK experienced mass outages (断供). People were not able to take calls, receive texts o    3     use mobile data (数据).

In the US, major telecommunications (电信) companies like AT&T said traffic was up 21% month over month. Video streaming services like YouTube, Netflix and Facebook have cut their picture qualities and download (下载) speeds. This is being done to r    4     network traffic jams (拥挤).

C    5     with the end of 2019, China has seen an internet traffic increase of around 50 percent. The country’s network speeds went d    6     greatly in early February, reported Xinhua. However, they r    7     to normal (正常) soon afterwards and have worked well.

This is due to (由于) China’s work in building network infrastructure (基础设施), e    8     5G technology. By the end of February, 164,000 5G base stations had been built all over the country. This has given Chinese networks the power to withstand (承受) increased traffic. “Without the d    9     of the internet network field, people could hardly enjoy such a colourful life at home. Online working and teaching could never be realized so e    10    ,” Wen Ku, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, told Xinhua.

10 . There has been a lot of news recently about 5G, but what is this technology(技术) and how might it change our lives?

What is 5G?

5G stands for the next step in the development of technology to replace 4G system. Earlier“G”systems were designed to improve mobile communication operations. The new 5G system is expected to allow more users to do more things at a faster speed. It will move well beyond mobile network technology to influence many more industries than other “G” systems.

When will 5G be in use?

Before we can all use 5G, wireless companies and phone makers will have to complete a whole new system. New phones and communication equipment(设备)must be built. China is expected to put 5G onto the market sometime in 2020, while European nations are likely to build their systems more slowly over time. In the USA, the first 5G-ready phones can be found in the market in the first half of this year. The first 5G iPhone, however, is not expected until 2020. 4G phones will work on 5G networks, but not at 5G speeds.

What can 5G do?

Wireless industry groups say 5G will help the development of the future “smart cities”. 5G is also expected to connect self-driving cars and support new technologies. Higher 5G speeds could also help doctors to commonly do remote operations(远程操作). Factories and businesses could use 5G technology to increase automation(自动化)and improve the collection of information.

________

Many more kinds of data(数据) will be traveling across 5G networks. Much of the data could include personal details about people, businesses or government organizations. The increased data flow would give internet attackers a lot more possibilities to steal and misuse data. What’s more, the wider use of a 5G wireless network means any breakdown of the system would have more serious results. Such difficulties could influence public safety as well as world economic activity. For example, a failure during a doctor’s remotely guided operation could lead to the death of a patient. Or a network breakdown could cause self-driving cars to crash.
