Where does the mermaid(美人鱼) in the story come from? Some people think it comes from a real sea animal called the dugong(儒艮).
1. The dugong is a kind of large but friendly sea animal. They are sometimes called “sea cows” because they eat large amounts of sea grass. The dugong used to live in the waters of southeastern China. However, human activities have put the Dugong in danger. First, people put polluted water into the sea. 2. It is bad for sea grass. They can’t find enough sea grass to eat. Also, people’s activities, like sailing and catching fish, make sea grass stop growing.

The giant panda is the national treasure of China. 1.People around the world love pandas.
The black and white animals have also played an important role in China’s diplomacy(外交). It is known as “panda diplomacy”.
In the 1950s, China sent two pandas to the Moscow Zoo. By 1982, China had already given 23 pandas to nine different countries. 2.然而，这些大熊猫中大多数均已经死亡。China stopped giving away pandas in the early 1980s. Instead, the animals are lent to other countries. In general, they are to be returned to China after 10 years.
