School is a new start when the new term comes. Studying is certainly a big part of my life. I have made a decision to set a goal for every subject     1     the beginning of the term. I am always active in all classes so that I can have more free time to do things     2     I’m interested in after school.

I like reading books of all kinds. Meanwhile, I     3     an active member in my school’s running team.

To achieve what I want, I must use my time well. At school, I always do my homework     4     I have spare time. After school, I try to     5     any possible time remembering the new words I have learned during the day. As the popular saying goes, “Every minute counts!”

Set a goal and get ahead!

2 . What is a goal? Goal is something that can make us know where we will arrive.     1    

Great people make it clear the kind of their life. They imagine what their life should be like and set certain goals. We control of our life by setting goals.     2     Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a place to go to clearly in mind which can be found on a map. He can drive straight there surely without any wasted time.     3     He starts off at the same time from the same place. But he drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere, just using up oil. Which driver do you want to be?

    4     And they get there by setting goals and making plans. Unsuccessful people usually just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set and they aren’t difficult to reach. It’s up to you to find out what your goals really are.

Research shows it’s more possible to achieve a goal when we write it down.     5     They are harder to forget. Also when you write your goals in your own way, you are able to make yourself realize situation that will bring you nearer to your goal.

3 . On September 7, 2023, the famous Chinese archaeologist (考古学家) Fan Jinshi, 85, was awarded by UNESCO for her great ______   to the protection of the Dunhuang Mogao Caves (敦煌莫高窟).

Called the “daughter of Dunhuang”, her story with the caves ______ 60 years ago. In 1963, Fan, a 25-year-old Peking University student, was assigned (分配) to work at the Mogao Caves, a place she had ______ to study.

Though her father was ______ her health and tried to get her to a different place, Fan got on a train from Shanghai to the west.

Back in those days, the Mogao Caves were almost ______ cut off from the world. Fan and others had to live in simple houses and drink salty water. They stayed inside the caves to do ______ and try whatever they could to protect them.
