5 . Usually if a radio show puts you to sleep, it seems a bad program. But for John Watson, sleeping listeners are what he’s hoping for. As a young man, Mr. Watson was not feeling good. He had a heart problem. Even worse, he couldn’t sleep because he was so sensitive (敏感的) to sound. He tried many ways to relax, but they didn’t work.
Someone said peaceful music might help him sleep. Mr. Watson then found some peaceful music CDs, but he soon got tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. He found some peaceful music stations on the Internet. They were free. ________ Just as he was falling asleep, the peaceful music would get interrupted—either by an ad (广告) or the host. And Mr. Watson would wake up again.
Mr. Watson then decided to make his own Internet radio station. In 2014, Mr. Watson’s peaceful music station, Sleep Radio, went live on the Internet. Every week he gets four or five CDs from musicians who make peaceful music. They send him their music because they want him to play their music on the air. The station has visitors from all over the world. People have even listened to his program from Africa. Because there are no ads, Mr. Watson pays for most of the costs himself. Every day, Mr. Watson gets e-mails from people around the world: Thank you for helping me go to sleep. “Around 70% of the people who are listening on any given day are in fact asleep,” Mr. Watson says.

They brought him fresh flowers each day. Then something wonderful happened. Martin’s condition started to improve, and he looked towards the future with more hope.
Martin soon realized that other patients (病人) around him didn’t get the same kindness. This made him go from room to room, giving away his flowers to them. The results were amazing. He watched people’s sadness turn into happiness.
After leaving the hospital, Martin couldn’t forget the power of his flowers. Six months later, to help more people, he started a project (项目) called the Simple Sunflower Project. He collected used flowers from some events like weddings (婚礼) and then the flowers were given to people in hospitals and the old people’s homes. In the first year, only no more than 100 people got the flowers. But in the following 12 years, it gave away flowers to about 30, 000 people.
