1 . Sun bears usually live alone and are happy to spend most of their time by themselves when not looking for a mate. They spend their days in scarce of fruit, nuts, birds and insects in Southeast Asia's tropical forests.

Although sun bears mostly live alone, scientists recently discover they have developed a surprising social skill. They can make some facial expressions by mimicking other bears as a form of communication. Researchers studied 22 sun bears during natural social play at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center in Malaysia. Usually, this kind of skill is found in humans, gorillas(大猩猩), some monkeys and even pet dogs. But until now, only humans and gorillas show the ability to exactly copy complex faces. The study found that sun bears, however, are just as good at it as humans and gorillas. This surprised researchers; not only do sun bears usually live alone, they also are not closely related to humans.

Sun bears have a black coat and a white or golden color on their mid-section. They live in trees and eat both plants and animals. Sun bears are the smallest of the world's eight bear species, and can grow to be up to 1.4 meters in height and 65 kilograms in weight. Although they live alone in the wild, the bears in the study often played gently with each other. Sometimes they played with faster actions and behaviors such as hitting and hitting.

Decry Taylor is a doctoral student in psychology at the University of Portsmouth in England. He is one of the writers of the study, which was published in Scientific Reports. Taylor said, "It seems that some forms of communication are much more widely shared among mammals than we previously thought. Let remains uncertain what messages the bears were sending to one another." But the facial copying might be a signal that they are ready to move from gentle to rougher play, Taylor suggested.

2 . Josh Bangert was playing basketball this summer when he noticed the vision in his left eye was blurry(模糊). The 15-years-old ignored it, believing he just needed glasses. But when he went to the doctor a few weeks later, he was told he had a disease that no surgery(手术)could treat. He would likely lose his sight by the end of the year. Josh was frustrated.

The next morning, Josh began to accept his fate. What came next was an incredible show of support for the student. One of his mother's friends suggested Josh make a bucket list of things he wanted to see and turn to a GoFundMe for the expenses of the trips. Within 24 hours, his father got a message on his phone: They had hit their $20,000(139,000 yuan)goal. More than 450 people have given almost 36,000. The community response is just amazing. With help from the donations, the Bangert family took Josh to the Bulls' first preseason game. A highlight of the night was when Bulls cookie(新手)Chandler Hutchison shot a 3-pointer. Other things on his list: mountains, the ocean, the desert, Niagara Falls, snorkeling, white-water rafting.

The disease is known to progress fairly rapidly, often starting in one eye and moving to the other, according to Dr. Timothy J. In spite of it, the family is flying to San Francisco so Josh can cross the mountains and see the ocean. "Whatever money is left after Josh goes through his list will be spent on medical research," his mother said, "and this is bigger than just our son Josh, bigger than his bucket list. I don't know what it's going to lead to, but Josh said from the start that if he loses his sight, it's for a good reason. We're seeing that. We're confirming that."

1. Why was Josh's left eye blurry?
A.He always ignored the eye protection.
B.He developed an incurable disease in the eye.
C.An accident in a surgery accounted for it.

C.A nursing home.D.A volunteer organization.
3. In face of the eye disease, Josh did all of the following EXCEPT________.
A.make a list of thing that he wanted to see
B.try to get help for the expenses of his trips
C.go to watch Bulls' first preseason game with his family
D.borrow money from his neighbors to treat the disease
4. What can we learn from what Josh' mother said?
A.Josh can't accept his disease after all.
B.The family will give up the treatment on Josh.

3 . It may sound strange, but cutting down a real tree for Christmas is actually greener than going with the artificial kind, one scientist says.

“It is a little confusing to people,” said Clint Springer, a biologist at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Because of concerns over deforestation (砍伐森林) around the world, many people naturally worry that buying a real tree might contribute to that problem. But most Christmas trees for sale these days are grown not in the forest but on tree farms for the purpose of being cut.

Moreover, from the viewpoint of greenhouse gases, real trees are “the obvious choice”. Live trees actively release oxygen as they grow, and meanwhile remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. After they have been cut and Christmas is over, they’re usually cut into smaller pieces for mulch (覆盖物). As mulch, the bits of trees very slowly release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. So in the end, a real Christmas tree is carbon neutral, putting the same amount of carbon dioxide back into the air as it took out (although much more slowly).

The tree farms that grow the trees also replant after the trees are cut. Artificial trees, on the other hand, don’t come out even in the carbon balance. Petroleum (石油) is used to make the plastics in artificial trees and lots of carbon dioxide-creating energy is required to make and transport them. Because these trees just end up in the places where waste is buried under the ground after use, “ those greenhouse gases are lost forever,” Springer said.

6 . Aspirin has long been praised as a wonder drug. An aspirin a day keeps the doctor away. Many Americans have been taking one aspirin a day, believing it would protect them from a heart attack, a stroke(中风), and even a cancer. But several recent studies have thrown this into question. Daily use of aspirin can have serious side effects(副作用).

One study followed more than 19,000 healthy people aged 65 and older. They were required to take either 100 mg of aspirin (a little more than the 81 mg dose that most people take) or a placebo (无效对照剂) every day for about years. Not only did people in the aspirin group not lower their risk of heart disease, or disability but they were also more likely to suffer from bleeding into the brain or stomach. And they were more likely to die because of an increased risk of giving in to cancer, Similarly, an experiment of more than 12, 500 people aged 55 and older who have a cardiovascular (心血管的) risk found no benefit to taking aspirin daily. In study of more than 15,000 people with diabetes(糖尿病), a daily aspirin did prevent heart attacks and strokes, but it also caused serious bleeding.

Although some earlier research has proved that aspirin can help people who have already had or are at high risk for heart attacks or strokes, the drug’s value is not so clear for people, especially older people. The bottom line is this: Be smart and be safe. You should not take daily low-dose aspirin without talking to a doctor if you.

7 . On March 2, at the meeting held ahead of the yearly session of the CPPCC National Committee(全国政协大会), interpreter(口译员) Yao Mengyao caught the attention of many with her “quick reaction and correct translation, ”Xinhua noted.

Yao began her studies in English in primary school where she would listen to English tapes.

She often spoke to her teacher about English-related topics that were not limited to the ones in her textbooks, “They were always very professional uncommon topics, ”said Yao’s senior school teacher Shen Yingzi.

Like Yao, Zhang Lu is a regular interpreter for China's top leaders, including Premier Li Keqing and former Premier Wen Jiabao. Her effortless but on-point translations of ancient poems mentioned by former Premier Wen won praise.

So how do interpreters reach their top positions?

The reason for their success is largely hard work. Other than when they go out on visits with Chinese leaders, the interpreters follow a very strict schedule. Zhang called this schedule“an unshakable plan”. They listen to foreign media such as BBC, VOA or CNN through TV or radio for their training.

It is reported that a month before the two sessions(两会), the interpreters get notice of the spokesperson they are going to interpret for. They then make full use of this month to prepare themselves. They try to predict the questions that might be asked and consider the sayings the spokesperson might use when they answer the questions.

In truth, there is no secret to their success: It’s all a matter of skill and hard work.

1. What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A.Yao tried to make a speech in English.B.The textbooks didn't interest yao at all.

10 . Japanese researchers are genetically changing mosquitoes so that they become carriers of a vaccine (疫苗) that could vaccinate millions for free. The researchers have already genetically changed a mosquito species so that its saliva (唾液) contains a protein that acts as a vaccine against leishmaniasis(利什曼病), a deadly disease that leads to terrible skin problems. The team confirmed that mice bitten by the genetically-engineered mosquito developed an antibody to the disease, meaning they had built up immunity (免疫力).

“You would be vaccinated without even noticing. You wouldn’t need any drug and you wouldn’t need to show up at a fixed place for mass vaccinations,” said Shigeto Yoshida, the associate professor who has led the research. “Repeated bites would only strengthen the immunity.”

Similarly the mosquitoes could be used to help treat malaria (疟疾),     perhaps a decade from now, said the malaria expert.

Nearly one million people die each year from malaria ---- most of them are children ---- mainly in Africa and Asia, according to the World Health Organization. Now a problem is that no effective vaccine exists. “There is a treatment that works, but it is beyond the reach of people who need to worry about food for tomorrow,” Yoshida said.

However, Yoshida expects that the genetically-engineered mosquito will finally help wipe out the deadly disease in the developing world. “Technically speaking, I believe it’s a matter of 10 years or so, but it’s not clear whether society would accept it,” he said.

Another problem is that the genetically-engineered mosquito may still pick up and spread the infected blood of a person who has already caught malaria. Yoshida’s team is hoping it can solve this problem by developing a mosquito species that kills the malaria virus inside its own body.

1. How have scientists turned mosquitoes into carriers of a vaccine?
A.By changing their genes.B.By killing the virus in their bodies.
C.By letting them bite mice.D.By injecting vaccines into their bodies.
2. Which of the following is NOT an advantage of using mosquitoes as vaccine carriers?
A.It’s free of charge.B.It’s convenient.
C.It’s more effective.D.It’s unnoticeable.
3. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A.People welcome the idea of using mosquitoes to treat malaria.
B.Mosquitoes carrying vaccines may still spread malaria.
C.It is not long before people will use mosquitoes to get rid of malaria.
D.A mosquito can kill the malaria virus inside its own body.
4. The main purpose of the passage is to         .
A.introduce a possible solution to malaria
B.encourage people to use mosquitoes to fight against diseases
C.show that Japan has very advanced technology
D.call on people to help people suffering from malaria in Africa and Asia
