4 . When something on your fruit or vegetable looks strange, it isn't unusual to throw it to the side. without any hesitation. But some “unusual" parts of fruits and vegetables actually contain abundant amounts of health benefits or they may offer other little known uses. Those stings in your banana are no different.
Often thrown away with its skin, banana strings, which are scientifically called phloem bundles, are just as nutritious as the rest( inner pat) of the fruit. They are packed full of fibre, vitamin A, and vitamin B6 and other nutritional content, Phloem can be found in all plants, which is responsible for the transport of nutrients.“ Phloem bundles are made up of living cells that send food products and sugar to all the different parts of the plant," says Rebecca Lee, a registered nurse and the founder of remediesforme. com. And that is exactly what those strings do in the banana, transporting necessary nutrients throughout the delicious fruit so that it can grow up properly.
“They are not disgusting, and they just help the banana grow and become delicious," Dr. Elizabeth Trattner A. P. DOM, Doctor of Chinese and Integrative Medicine, told Reader's Digest. “It is fine to eat and although is structure is a little different from the inside.
Those phloem bundles can also be used to determine if your banana is ready to eat. If all of the nutrients haven't been transported completely in a balanced way throughout the fruit yet, then the phloem bundles stay on more tightly, meaning the banana is under ripe. Then the opposite occurs with ripe and over ripe bananas, as the strings can be removed more easily. But if your bananas do end up bring over-ripe. throw them away? Absolutely not!

5 . Everyone has got two personalities—the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control yourself, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you.In a normal night,of course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your secret personality is the one that you fall asleep with.

If you sleep curled up(卷曲),you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt,so you are very defensive. You’re shy and you don’t usually like meeting people. You prefer to be on your own. You’re easily hurt.
If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You’re usually careful. You believe in yourself. You sometimes feel anxious, but you don’t often get unhappy. You always say what you think, even if it makes people rather angry.

7 . Last week,we talked about the conflict(冲突)between sleepy teenagers and early morning classes. Many people commented on our website.
For example,Damla Ece in Turkey wrote:I agree with the idea of starting lessons later so teenagers can feel better in the morning. But sleeping more than seven hours can be wasting time for students.
Tran in Vietnam disagreed:I think teenagers,on average, need eight to ten hours of sleep every day. It's useless to try to force them to concentrate while they can't concentrate.
Afshin Heydari from Iran wrote:Schools should start early to avoid heavy traffic later in the morning.
And Suze from Jordan wrote:When I was a teenager,I enjoyed taking my courses as early as possible. That way I could find a long time in the day to do my own activities.
But Azra from Kyrgyzstan said:The reason why schools start early here is a lack of classrooms.
And Joruji in Japan wrote:When I was a teenager,I used to get up before six to go to school, which was far from home, and I don't remember having problems.I think nowadays the Internet,TV games and cell phones make teens go to sleep later.
Thirtyyearold Kika in Spain said:In my opinion, young people are very lazy.
But Dennis Jin disagreed:For high school students in China,we must reach class at 6:20 in the morning and be back home usually at 10:00 in the evening. Then we'll have some extra schoolwork to do.Can you imagine how long could we sleep every day?
Teenagers are not the only ones who suffer.Kathy in Canada wrote:My daughter likes complaining about everything in the morning, and I know that this is from lack of sleep.I wish schools should change their start time to 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning.

8 . If humans ever hope to live on the Mars, the settlers will need to produce a series of organic compounds (有机化合物), from fuels to drugs, which are too expensive to ship from Earth.
Chemists from University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have a plan for that.
For the past eight years, the researchers have been working on a system combining bacteria and nanowires (细菌和纳米线) that can catch the energy of sunlight to change carbon dioxide (CO,) and water into building blocks for organic things. Nanowires are thin wires about one-hundredth the width of a human hair, used as electronic parts, and also as solar cells.
“On Mars, about 96% of the atmosphere is CO2. Basically, all you need is these nanowires to take in the solar energy and pass it on to these bacteria to do the chemistry for you,” said project leader Peidong Yang, professor of chemistry and the S.K. and Angela Chan Distinguished Chair in Energy at UC Berkeley. “For a deep space task, you care about the weight, and biological systems have the advantage that they self-reproduce: You don’t need to send a lot. That’s why this version is highly attractive.”
The only other requirement, besides sunlight, is water, which on Mars is relatively more than enough in the polar ice caps and likely lies frozen underground over most of the planet, said Yang.
It works like photosynthesis (光合作用), which plants naturally employ to change CO2 and water into carbon compounds, mostly sugar and carbohydrates. Plants, however, have a quite low efficiency (效率), usually changing less than one-half percent of solar energy into carbon compounds. Yang’s system is comparable to the plant that best changes CO2 to sugar, which is 4~5% efficient.

10 . A heart-stopping video shows that a group of hikers were able to keep their cool as a curious black bear approached them—and one even stayed composed enough to snap a selfie (自拍).
The black bear pulls one of the women by the leg with its paws(爪子),moving towards her across the path as she tries to remain completely still. When the frightening animal stands up on its legs to smell her, the fearless walker can be seen taking a photo with the wild animal as it breathes down her neck.
The incident is reported to have happened on a path in Chipinque Ecological Park, Mexico, and the clip (剪辑片段)has had millions of views since being shared on social media. With the bear particularly interested in one member of the group, another walker remains frozen with her back to the animal as she stares still into the trees.
A third can be seen nervously fearing as the bear begins to approach her and shakes her hand in fear, but it circles back around to check out the first hiker for a second time. It pushes her off balance with its head before twice pawing at her legs as onlookers shout to try and warn the bear off.
The woman remains fearless as the animal isn't into her and continues walking up the path, giving the group an opportunity to make a swift exit.
It was shared on Twitter by former basketball player Rex Chapman, getting 2.7 million views, with the caption: "Oh, my goodness. She's a rock."
