Food is a major part of every culture. Each country has     1    (it) own eating culture,    2     makes eating habits around the world various.

Egyptians start the day with     3     drink. When breakfast can be eaten is not fixed, but it must be before the day’s main meal. In the past, this main meal was served at around 3 p.m. But now people work     4    (long) hours than before and eat when they get home at 6 p. m. Dinner parties    5    (hold) later, around 9 p.m. Most Egyptian     6    (meal) include bread or rice, vegetables and meat.

France is famous     7     its delicious food, and its people take food     8    (serious). Most eat three meals a day at fixed times. Breakfast is a light meal of bread and coffee. They eat lunch at 1 p.m. and have dinner after 8 p. m.

Most Americans know it is    9    (harm) to their health without eating breakfast. Therefore some take time    10    (prepare) and eat a hot breakfast.     

Others grab a donut (甜甜圈) while rushing out of the door. For lunch, most Americans eat sandwich. They usually have dinner at around 6 p.m.

Economic development is necessary if we want to improve society. There comes a time     1     the old must give way to the new.     2     (keep) the right balance between progress and the protection of cultural sites can be a big challenge. Big challenges, however, can sometimes lead to great     3     (solve). In order to benefit the area, the Egyptian government wanted to build a new dam     4     the Nile. In most countries, turning 18    1    (mark) the start of adulthood. But what does reaching the age of majority really mean? Does it mean that you will be    2    (complete) in charge of your own life and able to express yourself in new and    3    (excite) ways? What new responsibilities will you have to take    4    ? Here, three young people tell us what turning 18 means, or meant, to them.

Bethany, 16, comes from Victoria, Australia. She won’t have the right to vote in the next general    5    (elect), because she won’t be old enough. She has been taking driving lessons but she isn’t allowed to take her driving test    6    she is 18.

Lin Ning, 19, is from Shanghai, China. At 18, although he could do things like    7    (get) a credit card and act on his desire to help others, there were still rules    8    (obey) and lessons to attend.

Morgan, 20, is from Florida, the US. He thought once he turned 18 and got    9    good job he would rent an apartment, but his salary was not high enough. The reality for him has been very different.     10    is hard for him to save money because of the household bills and high commute costs.
