Burt’s Bees
The story of Burt’s Bees began when founder Roxanne Quimby moved to Maine and lived in a cabin in the woods. Quimby worked for local beekeeper Burt Shavitz. As partners, they started a company called Pure Maine Honey, which later evolved into the beeswax (蜂蜡) products brand known today as Burt’s Bees.
SoulCycle
Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler were introduced to each other in New York City when Rice was a talent agent and Cutler was a real estate agent. In their first meeting, Rice and Cutler developed the workout concept for a cardio studio, which turned into the sensation SoulCycle.
Cisco
Founded by Sandy Lerner and then-husband Len Bosack, two members of Stanford University’s computer support staff, in 1984, Cisco became one of the nation’s fastest-growing companies by providing equipment that connects to the Internet.
Build-A-Bear
Maxine Clark left her position as president of Payless ShoeSource to pursue a stuffed animals business. Clark opened her first Build-A-Bear Workshop in 1997, and the company had expanded to 425 stores worldwide by 2012. Clark retired as CEO in 2013.
Zola
Shan-Lyn Ma dreamed of being an entrepreneur and one day working for Yahoo. She made it finally. Afterwards, at a wedding she noticed the wedding-gift shopping and wedding registries(婚礼登记处) were impersonal and clunky. She wanted to reinvent the wedding registry experience and founded Zola in 2013.
