Below is a list of apps for college students recommended by educational technology experts. The needs of individual students differ and experts suggest that students try out several apps to find the right one. Blackboard App. A popular learning management system, Blackboard is used at many colleges across the U. S. It allows students to get course work for online classes or in-person classes. Students can view course content, complete assignments and tests, view graded and more.

Duolingo. Advertising itself as “the world’s best way to learn a language”, Duolingo offers lessons in 35- plus languages, helping users with speaking, reading, listening, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Duolingo offers both free and paid versions, the latter with an ad-free experience and of line access to lessons.

Evernote. A note-taking and task-management system that offers the ability to sync across devices. Evernote allows users to create to-do lists, save web pages and change documents into a digital form via a device’s camera.

Ever note is free, though an advanced version with more feature costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year.

College mobile apps. College-specific apps have become fairly common among U. S. college students. While these apps may differ by college, users can often find campus maps, news, safety information, scheduled events and more.

Museum of Latin American Art: Founded in 1996, it is the only art museum in the United States devoted to modern and contemporary Latin American art. Since its beginning, it has doubled its size, added a 15,000 ­square­ foot sculpture garden and expanded its permanent collection, ranging from works by Tamayo and Matta to Cruz­Diez, Los Carpinteros and Tunga. Free admission every Sunday.

Autry Museum of the American West: Located in Griffith Park, the Autry features world­class galleries filled with Native American art and artifacts, film memorabilia, historic firearms and more. The Autry’s collection of more than 500,000 pieces of art and artifacts includes the Southwest Museum of the American Indian Collection, one of the largest and most significant collections of Native American materials in the country. Free admission on the second Tuesday of every month.

Descanso Gardens: Located in La Cañada Flintridge, the 160 acre Descanso Gardens was originally developed in 1936 by Elias Manchester Boddy, whose numerous interests included horticulture and politics. Descanso Gardens offers numerous areas for exploring, including a Japanese tea garden, Water-­wise garden, Oak Woodland, California Garden, and the world’s largest collection of camellia flowers. Free admission on the third Tuesday of every month.

Kidspace Children’s Museum: Founded in 1979 by members of the Caltech community and Junior League of Pasadena, the museum develops the potential of all kids through kid­driven experiences, inspiring them to become joyful, active learners. Admission to the museum is free on First Fridays.

10 . ANCIENT CHINESE ART ON SHOW

The Richfield Museum of Fine Art is proud to present our new exhibition, "from Shang to Qing: Chinese Art Through the Ages." Join us as we explore more than 3,000 years of wonderful art from the Middle Kingdom. From bronze bowls to ceramic vases, and jade sculptures to ink wash paintings, our goal is to display the Chinese artistic genius from ancient times.

The highlight of this exhibition is the painting Clearing After Snow on a Mountain Pass, one of the great works of TangYin (1470-1524). Born during the Ming Dynasty, Tang sought and failed to gain entry into the civil service, so he turned to painting instead. In time, he gained recognition as one of the greatest artists China has ever known. This painting, showing high mountains, trees, and houses covered in snow, was made with extraordinary skill. Though it is over 500 years old, it looks as fresh and full of life as the day it was created.

Also of primary note is a collection of nearly 100 bronze objects from the Shang Dynasty (1600 BCE-1046 BCE). While the artists who made these great works are not known, they showed great skill in creating these beautiful pieces. Some of the items on display are thought to have come from the collection of Emperor or Qianlong (1711- 1799), a great admirer of Shang Dynasty bronze.

Finally, we have many fine examples of Tang Dynasty (618-907) sculptures. Most of these are of Buddhist origin. Even though Buddhism entered China much earlier, it did not really begin to show expansion until the seventh century. During this same period, trade along the Silk Road also boomed. Chinese sculpture thus found itself highly influenced by Buddhist art brought from India and Central Asia through the Silk Road. These works were intended to spread Buddhism and they are of exceptional beauty and quality. Looking at the faces of the figures in these sculptures, one sees the faces of the past. History is brought to life.

Opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Tuesday to Sunday (the museum is closed on Mondays). No one will be admitted into the exhibition after 4:30 p.m.

Admission: $10 for adults; $8 for students; $5 for children under 12; free for children under 5.
