文章大意:本篇为应用文。主要介绍顾客针对一款电子阅读产品Kindle的评价。

1 . 1. As a first-time e-paper user, I am not sure if all the momentary pixilation (像素) is normal. The size is ideal for my new-teenager. There are hardly any annoyances and the kid seems enjoying the experience. The parental controls are, mildly put, inadequate. I would anticipate being able to define lock-down timings and limit usage duration for a device targeted at kids.

---Miki

2. This is such a lifesaver! My son reads books constantly. We were doing our best to buy books and use the library, but it was hitting our wallets hard. With the Kindle Free Time included with this Kindle kids edition, he has access to thousands of books. I get to set the age appropriate limits on the book access. As we live on a tight budget, it’s great to have a one-year free subscription to Free Time.

---Billie

3. Just received this device today and I’m ready to throw it out the window. Navigation is horrible and even customer service admitted that they don’t know how to help. It’s a nightmare trying to get your free subscription set up as they just keep redirecting you to set up a 30-day trial and be charged after. I’ll be cancelling everything and sending this back as soon as possible.

---Catherine

4. This is a reader’s kindle. We want our children to read—not play video games all day. From the moment we received this device as a gift, our kids had immediate access to 55 books that we had purchased through our Amazon account. Now they can carry around a whole library of books. Not to mention all of the free out of copyright material that is available.

---Norah

3 . Since the beginning of history, people have played games. Children in one country may play games that are quite different from those played anywhere else in the world. Here are some interesting games that you and your friends can try.

The Mouse Game (The Philippines)

In this game, a piece of string is tied to the player’s hand. One part of the string represents (代表) the “cat” while the other part is the “mouse”. The aim of the game is for the cat to catch the mouse and for the mouse to escape just in time. It teaches you to focus and move your fingers fast.

Pinata (Mexico)

A pinata is a colorful box made from papers and filled with sweets and toys. Children are blindfolded and take turns at trying to hit the pinata, which usually hangs (悬挂) on a tree or pole. When someone breaks open the pinata, the children run to get the sweets and toys, which they can take away as gifts. This game improves your sense of direction.

Help (China)

Chasing games are popular all around the world. In China, one player is chosen to be the chaser and runs after the other players until someone is caught. No equipment is needed to play this game, but it helps to run fast and have a loud voice for shouting.

Doorkeeper (Afghanistan)

In the villages of Afghanistan, there is no limit to the number of players who can take part in the game. A small rubber ball is all you need to play the game. It helps to have quick reactions and focus your eyes on the ball because you need to prevent the ball getting into the net.

4 . What Can We See in a Logo?

We see hundreds of logos on signs, vehicles, websites, and even on the clothes we wear. All of these logos are designed to attract our attention.    1    However, a recent research supports the idea that remembering what a logo looks like is a very difficult task.

Researchers gave 85 students a simple assignment to draw the logo of a well-known company from memory. Surprisingly, only one student in the study could accurately draw the logo from memory.    2    Researchers have developed a theory that they think might help to explain this blind spot in our memories.

Logos are typically designed to be simple and easy to recognize with a quick glance. Yet the frequent exposure to these logos can actually make our brains overlook them. This process is known as “attention saturation(注意力饱和)”.    3

Even though the brain is accustomed to ignoring unnecessary details, it is programmed for recognition. When we see images such as logos over and over again, we become familiar with them. This constant exposure leads to something scientists refer to as “gist memory”, which means that our brains remember the basic idea without all of the details.    4    . In fact, familiarity with a popular logo can even make people feel more comfortable about purchasing or using certain products.

Logos are everywhere we look today. A fancy design or a thoughtful color combination may be a good start for a logo concept, but there are other factors to consider.    5    A clever design may be interesting, but most people will forget the details—especially if our brains have nothing to say about it.

A.This may be inspiring to logo designers.
B.People will know the product behind the logo.
C.This general sense of memory has its own benefits.
D.So why is it so difficult for people to recall the details of images?
E.They also help us remember a product or service connected to the images.
F.Our brains actually signal us to ignore information we don’t think we will need to remember.
G.Logo designers need to know that people will only remember what they believe is worthwhile.
