In the past decade we’ve seen the rise of graphic novels that come in all sorts of forms. Now join author and illustrator Lizzy Stewart for our upcoming masterclass, where she’ll take you through how to create both the illustration and text for a graphic novel. You’ll have the chance to find the right form for the story you are trying to tell, and Lizzy will share her insight into the editorial and publishing process of getting a graphic novel printed. 15 minutes will be reserved for a Q&A session at the end of the masterclass, when Lizzy will answer what you’re curious to know.

7 . The Walt Disney Company turns 100 years old in 2023, and the whole world will celebrate its stories, characters and imagination — but only Philly’s Franklin Institute will house Disney 100: The Exhibition.

Making its world debut (首秀) right here in Philadelphia, the exhibition takes guests behind the scenes into the magical world of Disney at what’s sure to be one of the region’s must-see exhibitions of 2023.

Disney 100: The Exhibition features 10 large galleries, each with a distinct theme relating to the history of the House of Mouse, celebrating the classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Strange World.

The Walt Disney Archives (档案馆) is displaying its treasures, including more than 250 of its “Crown Jewels”, rarely seen artworks, costumes and other memorabilia (纪念品).

Tickets to Disney 100: The Exhibition are on sale now, and guests have several options when it comes to experiencing the Disney magic.

Folks looking to visit in the daytime (9 am to 5 pm) can buy timed tickets for $45 (adults) and $41 (children aged 3-11). The best part: General museum admission to the rest of the Franklin Institute is included in the cost.

10 . In the first half of the 20th century, weekend escapes in the United States often meant hopping a train to a nearby town, city, or country inn. Here are several new or restored routes that let you ditch your car for a weekend trip.

Route 1 Miami to West Palm Beach, Florida

Florida’s Brightline, the only privately funded inter-city train system in the U.S., restarted nearly hourly services from Miami to West Palm Beach (with a stop in Fort Lauderdale) in late 2021. The electric-and diesel-powered trains can go as fast as 79 miles per hour, meaning the journey from Miami Central station to West Palm takes just 75 minutes. Continuing service north to Orlando launches next year.

Route 2 San Francisco to Truckee, California

The full route of Amtrak’s California Zephyr—revived(恢复) in May after a pandemic (流行病) suspension—takes 51 hours to travel from the Bay Area to Chicago (or vice versa). But if you take the leg just from San Francisco to Truckee, California, a five-hour trip lands you in one of the most historic, scenic towns in the Lake Tahoe area.

Route 3 New York City to Burlington, Vermont

Revived in July 2022 the Ethan Alen Express takes just under eight hours to travel from New York City to Burlington, Vermont. It passes New York State’s Adirondack Mountains and Vermont’s Green Mountains on route to Burlington, the state capital and one of America’s hippest(时髦的) small cities.

Route 4 Washington, D. C., to Roanoke, Virginia

It’s about a five-hour train trip from Washington, D. C.’s Union Station to Roanoke, Virginia. In July, high demand led Amtrak to add a second daily train to and from the historic Blue Ridge Mountains city. This expanded Route 46, a shared service of Amtrak and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), resulted in a 28.9 percent increase in ridership for July over the previous month.
